Default Agent: I was ordered to let U.S. guns into Mexico

    http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/...20039031.shtml

An Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms senior agent assigned to the Phoenix office in 2010, Dodson's job is to stop gun trafficking across the border. Instead, he says he was ordered to sit by and watch it happen.

Investigators call the tactic letting guns "walk." In this case, walking into the hands of criminals who would use them in Mexico and the United States.

Are those rifles (given to the mexican army/police) serialed? Or do they happen to be the "untraceables" that skew the number traced back to the US.

Their answer, according to Dodson, was, "If you're going to make an omelette, you've got to break some eggs."
I just have to ask myself, "If it were their loved ones, their children being murdered in the streets." if they would feel the same way.

    Just eggs and Omelets, right?

    Default Chicken Omelet

Chicken Omelets. Get the eggs out of the chicken, then stuff the chicken back into the egg. It all sounds like pure insanity...

The dealers that brought this "unusual" activity to the attention of BATFE, even though it was not illegal, were told to complete the sales as part of the investigation. I posted this up a week or so back, from the CBS news website. The mainstream media seems to be seriously ignoring this, probably to take heat off of the Chosen One....

In late 2009, ATF was alerted to suspicious buys at seven gun shops in the Phoenix area. Suspicious because the buyers paid cash, sometimes brought in paper bags. And they purchased classic "weapons of choice" used by Mexican drug traffickers - semi-automatic versions of military type rifles and pistols.
Sources tell CBS News several gun shops wanted to stop the questionable sales, but ATF encouraged them to continue.

These are called buy-walks in the investigation business. As long as they are a part of a developing investigation being pursued to resolution, I have no problem with it. It isn't the purchasers that one is after in these types of cases. Its the gun runners themselves, the middle men, in hopes of identifying the upper level leaders.

Problem is you don't do buy-walks without pursuing a large and active investigation. You sures the hell don't talk about active cases and you sures the hell don't burn your seller from a buy walk by talking to media about it. This just reeks of dysfunction and politics.
Mom's comin' 'round to put it back the way it ought to be.

Anyone that thinks war is good is ignorant. Anyone that thinks war isn't needed is stupid.
