I was under the impression that the only thing wrong with Sigmas was that they had a crappy trigger, and that the Rugers were heavy and ugly. Everyone I know with a Ruger P Series says they are very reliable and built like tanks.

2nd on DeusExMachina's comment on the S&W M&P series. A Pro Series 9mm is one of my more recent acquisitions, and it is a superb example of a polymer-frame pistol. Maybe on a par with those produced in Valhalla by the Valkyries!!
