I had a 10/22 barrel that I know of a verified 30,000 rounds through it before I swapped it with a heavy .920 barrel. still shot good as new.

I think most people guess. some flat lie on round counts. you can tell which guns have a lot of rounds through them.

I think i read where ruger did 30,000 rounds through is SP9 and it was still going strong, so if someone shoots more than that, they are very wealthy and probably wouldn't have had that gun in the first place.

Great replies, thanks! Sounds like it's an even mix of counting, guessing and not really giving a crap. I'm with everyone else that says it's the gun and not the count.

I lost count on my carry gun after about 5,000, and that was with in the first two years I had it.

My Fal's it would be comical. Barrel #1 made in 58 and ask the Germans how many rounds. Then ask the Turks that bought it how many rounds. 43 years later I bought it. Second best shooter I have.

I am of a mind that condition and how it shoots are more important than round count. I have had a new barrel on a gun that shot like crap and after being "worked on" a few times still shot like crap.

To be honest it scares me when someone says that they have only shot 100 rds in 5 years. Tells me that they do not like the gun for one reason or another.

Around here the guns that are fun and accurate are the ones that get shot. I do have a couple that are fun to shoot because the ammo is cheap but they are also pretty accurate as well.
i have a few guns that due to at one time ammo shortages if they have 2-500 rds through them have a lot. hell my Adams Arms piston ar has 240 down it and that piston kit went on last year. just have not run it out. now my dedicated (one of) AR 22lr uppers has quite a few fed brown box bulk packs down it.I figure it doesn't matter what caliber you shoot it's how much training / practice you do with the tools you have. keep in mind some folks have more holster wear on their gun then rounds.

I bought whenever its a good deal or simply to try it out. I hate selling because I am abit OCD. I still have a few pistols, rifles and at least 2 shotguns that I haven't shot yet and they have been in the gun room for at least 2 years. I am working on my OCD, but it would easier to buy more ammo and shoot the heck out of these toys.

For some guns, I rip off the end of the box and put it in with the gun at the range. My Sig I kept the labels in the case under the foam, so I could tell how many went through it.

    I have a 1942 dated M38.

My guess would be around 15-20 Russians behind it.

I have to wonder how many my K98 mauser has through it and the notches it could have on it. or my M44 or 91/30

I used to be like Mazin and try to keep track and keep files on my computer, but then I learned to bump-fire and said fuck it.
