Default Massive quake hits Japan, Tsunami warnings around Pacific Rim

Japan was hit by an 8.9 Magnitude earthquake just after 11pm mountain time. Last I heard, 59 dead reported and a nuclear power plant is on a runaway condition.

Some high waves just washed ashore on Kauai and are reportedly headed towards the west coast at this time.

I was in HI last year when this happened. It was a lot of excitement for nothing. Watching the videos of Japan, it would have been a shitty vacation.

I endured frequent earthquakes when stationed at Misawa AB in northern Japan in the early 80s. Very scary sometimes. Misawa is very near the center of this quake, too.

    Misawa
Stars and Stripes editor T.D. Flack said Misawa Air Base was hit hard; there was no power and little in the way of comunications. People rushed to stores for whatever food and water they could find, ready to brave the night in sub-zero temperatures.

    Default Totally tongue-in-cheek

Power is out to Tokyo too - I wonder how many neopets are going to die in this disaster?

If you've never been in an earthquake, or lived in an area with frequent activity - it's hard to describe the sensations you get during an event. Disorientation, inability to even stand and that deep rumbling sensation in your gut. The largest I've ever experienced was a 7.1 and it went on for less than a minute, I just laid on the ground because I was unable to stand even holding onto something. With a doublilng in amplitude every .2 increase in the scale, I couldn't imagine what an 8.9 quake would feel like - must have felt like God himself was angry.

thoughts and prayers with all those in the path of this event.

ldmaster is right. If you have never experienced it its very hard to describe. I lived in CA most of my life and felt a few. Northridge quake in 1994 was about a minute of pure terror. From dead quiet to massive roaring and violent shaking in the blink of an eye. I was less than a mile from epicenter so it shook hard. The worst part is trying to sleep or go back to normal life when you get decent sized after shocks for weeks and months after the main quake. I dont miss that one bit.

No cell service or power at this time. Toughtime for japan.

On another note BO will send Billions to Japan and apologize for the H bomb again, even though we have NO money.
