You can go to any grocery store and people there will understand English. It is the same with any taco stand (mostly).

If that is the case Hell yeah I have a problem with it!
If you care so much about your "original culture" stay in your original country.
    I am not an Italian-American.
    I am American.
I do not expect anybody to speak Italian to talk or do business with me.
I expect the same courtesy when I deal with other immigrants.
    It is about RESPECT!
except if you went to germany or france or china and there was an american pub, or american gorcery store, where you got to hang out with americans and speak english and make your life easier. then you would probably be a-ok with it. its not that complicated. there is a market for people that are foreign to open up restuarants, grocery stores, etc for other people of their nationality. especially at a store such as this where they sell items you can't find other places. im all for assimilation too and think people should have to learn english before entering our school systems, but frankly as long as people are assimilating to some degree i have no problem with them having their businesses that focus on people of their nationality. if i was in a foreign country i would love nothing more than to have american businesses that i can go to if needed. doesn't mean itll be the only place i go, just means i can find stuff there i can't elsewhere and don't have to worry about the language barrier.

rancho liborio has everything in spanish and english and the majority of the workers spoke english. i wasn't even close to the only non-hispanic in there.

It is not about them understanding English.
I cannot believe I have to spell it out:
People that live here and have built this country with all the opportunity it offers should not have to learn a foreign language to shop in a business.
The ex-Checker Auto Parts on 38th and Federal used to have their sale signs in spanish only.
If you did not speak spanish you did not get to take advantage of the sales.
Am I the only one to think this is wrong?
Feel free to put up your signs in English with a spanish translation if you want to tap in that market, but English should be the main language.
I dare you to find anybody of Italian descent that speaks Italian.
This is because their immigrant parents and grandparents would not teach Italian to their kids, but rather have them assimilate entirely with their new home.

The Safeway next to my house closed. They are reopening it as a Mexican grocery store. I'm not very happy about it, but I'd rather have A grocery store, than NO grocery store.

Default Treaty Of Guadalupe Hidalgo 1848

After the war of 1846-1848 the treaty between Mexico and the United States did not specify any language or religion that the inhabitants had to adapt to in the newly conquered area of Mexico that was added to the United States.

A keen post from our assimilated-entirely, mercilessly English-only friend, Bella Vite.

ummm ok, seeing as how this has nothing to do with what we were talking about. no one said it was spanish only. besides, they should be able to have whatever language they want, they just lose my business if they don't speak english. you must live in a bubble, in chicago there are areas all over the city that have only a specific language. same with LA. same with new york. i couldn't care less, they just don't get my, and many other americans' business. thats their perrogative. when you start making ultimatums on what business owners can do culturally, you start down a slippery slope.

again, i am all for assimilation. i don't think having communities that basically segregate themselves from american society is a good thing. but its america, and its their freedom to do so. after all, thats what makes america great. the freedom to practice whatever religion or culture you seem fit
