So I have my orientation to volunteer at the VA hospital in Denver tomorrow. Should be interesting, and a little tough at times, but I'm looking forward to it!
Anyone else do any volunteering or service work anywhere?

the VA is an interesting place. from a pharmacy perspective, things are way different at the VA than a regular hospital. its an interesting experience.

Congrats, vets at the VA need all the help they can get!
I have had some issues with the VA over my father in law. They need to reform the VA system.
Ghettodub,
Thank you
I worked across the street on 9th Ave. The VA is the reason I'm terrified of having our government involved in healthcare.
That said, I'm sure you'll learn and see a lot.
9mm - because they don't make a 9.1mm
Outstanding! Good for you for doing this.
I volunteer a lot at our local animal shelter ( www.IMHS.org ) and I've put in my application to be elected to the BoD.
But, as a vet, even though I've never needed the VA, I'm thankful people like you step up to the plate.

Yeah, I am a volunteer driver for the DAV (Disabled American Vets). I drive a ten passenger van from Raton, NM down to the big VA Hospital in Albuquerque. Have to get up at about 4:45AM to be able to be down in Raton for the van to depart at 6:00AM sharp. I get back home (up in Trinidad) around 5:30PM which some times makes a rather LONG day. To qualify to drive the DAV van a person has to jump through a few hoops and pass a fairly rigid physical (at least there is no charge for that physical). It is really a satisfying job to help these guys and girls out and they all do appreciate it. Have not had any passengers who were grumpy/crabby or nasty. All nice folks with a lot of stories to keep a guy entertained. There is always a need for more volunteers of all types to help our Vets. I am a Vet but have yet to need any of their health related services - so far... Anyone wanting a real "eye opener" just spend a little time in the waiting room of any VA hospital and you'll appreciate what you have. I sure as hell do!!
