Default Chaffee County Dump/ DOW shooting range in Buena Vista

all I can say is WOW.

we went out there today and had the range completely to ourselves for a good 2 hours.

was pounding away at the 550-600 yard ram with the mosin and some crappy russian surplus ammo,
and at the 300-500 yard targets with the AR.

perfectly calm day today, with some slight breezes now and then.
    made for a great experience.

oh yeah, and did I mention I got to have a great experience with CS gas?
As I was walking downrange, I noticed some old gas grenades and 37 mil canisters on the ground. Being the dumba$$ i am, I decided to pick one up.
turns out some one had shot out the bottom of the canister, and when I picked the thing up, some residual CS came out of the grenade, and right into my face.
just that had me out for a good 30 minutes.
(but now I do have some cool souvenirs)

except for that stupid moment, It was a great shooting day. (one could even argue that it was a positive addition to the day. ha ha)

Class A facility (even though it apparently never gets used).
and It was nice having it all to myself.

    thanks for listening,
    Kenny

yep, I'd suspect that it'd be about 2 hours from parker.

it took about that much time from C-470 and hwy. 285

In my opinion it was totally worth the drive, but thats just me.
Not very many places where you can shoot upwards of 600 yards at steel for free.

And being able to shoot with the whole range to yourself is great

I hope It stays around a while.

I'd like to get out there tomorrow after work, but I'm thinking it will be packed since the weather is so nice. Anyone else going out there?

when I went, It was easily 60 degrees the whole time I was there, and I was there by myself the entire time I was there. (2+ hours)

I dont really think it would make much of a difference, but I guess you never know.

Wont be able to make it up there this weekend, but ive gotta make it up there again to scope out the action pistol setup they have out there. I only glanced at it last time, but it seemed like something to check out the next time.

have fun, its definitely a blast.

Let me know the next time you go there; I'd love to check it out, but the 6 hours of driving alone doesn't sound too fun. We could meet up at DCF Guns in Castle Rock.

C-470 to the hwy. 285 exit, follow 285 south until it T's with hwy. 24, take a left, and go about 10 miles south (approx.) the entrance is on the left hand side of 285 if you are going south, and its kind of hard to see. I missed it a couple times when I was trying to find it. It shares an entrance with the dump, so look for signs for the chaffee county landfill. when you turn in, the actual range is on the left of the driveway. you should see the DOW gate. Stay safe, have fun, and BE RESPONSIBLE!

(brass, clean up trash, dont shoot anything but designated targets, etc.)

MTS7: sure dude, I'll throw a PM your way the next time I go. youre more than welcome to go with.

    thanks,
    Kenny
