    Default Save your pennies

You're gonna need them to buy gas, and pay for anything that is transported by truck. (which is pretty much everything)

He is so full of F*cking S*it I can't stand it. Talking about "common sense" with off shore drilling....WTF he has none! If they can present a electric/hybrid truck that can tow my 10k pound loads all day without having to stop and recharge for 8 hrs. every 80 miles then maybe, just maybe, I'd look at going green but I highly doubt it.

Yawn. Every president since Carter has trotted out a "plan" to get Americans off foreign oil imports. They've all be spectacular at doing nothing.

The department of energy was formed back in Carter I days (we're living in Carter II days) to get American energy independent and off of foreign oil imports when we had 30% imports

Today, after 40 years of "government success" we're at 70% imports

We are not dependent on foreign oil, we are just using theirs first.

Its the reflexive position of the statist.

Just get government the hell out of the way and let Adam Smith's invisible hand do its work and we won't have to worry.

I don't understand what would be the incentive to the invisible hand of the market to spend more on energy to get it from clean/non-foreign sources. What makes you think that without any government involvement, the market would switch away from OPEC energy?

If the government didn't prevent us from developing our own energy resources then yes, the market would switch away from OPEC energy once it becomes less reliable and/or more expensive (which considering the goings on in most of the Arab world would be soon).

But because of government interference with the free market, we're FORCED to use OPEC oil (even if it becomes cost prohibitive), and switching away from it will require lots of time and government permission (which we're not likely to get).
