Default Kalashnikov Combatives for the AK47/74 Rifle

    Mean Streets Tactical Training
Kalashnikov Combatives for the AK47/74 Rifle
June 12th, 2011 at Buffalo Creek Gun Club

This class is designed to teach the defensive rifle warrior the skills required to decisively engage a threat and deal with the stress of a combat environment. The student will learn to deploy their AK47 or AK74 Kalashnikov rifle in close quarters and urban combat conditions.

The class is based on the Russian Army’s proven training techniques. This is a combatives class that will allow the shooter to zero their rifle and shoot it from various unconventional shooting positions and distances. Multiple skill builder drills will be utilized to reinforce techniques used by today's AK warriors. Expect the class to be fast paced and serious but completely fun and interesting. It will be somewhat different than a typical TacRifle course. Some of the Russian concepts taught in the class are really different than American military doctrine and what most western shooters use. The AK series rifle was desiged to be a complete weapons system and everything to support that doctrine is built into the rifle. The class will show you there is much more to the AK than meets the eye!

The course will emphasize AK specific operations:
    • Efficient gun handling
    • Military marksmanship techniques
    • Russian military AK zeroing technique- VERY Different!
    • AK specific speed and agility shooting methods- economy of motion with the AK
    • AK specific range estimation
    • AK balistics for both 7.62 x 39 and 5.45 x 39 calibers
    • Shooting from various unconventional positions and distances
    • Malfunction clearances
    • AK modifications considerations
The class is built upon principals used by the Russian Army to train soldiers to engage threats from various distances and to keep their AK series rifle operational. A former Russian Army AK specialist guest instructor will be on hand to help students master their AK rifle. The advantage of this class is the fact you will learn about your AK without there being other types rifles in the class to take time away from your training. Also, our guest instructor, Ivan, is a true AK expert and will help you to learn how it operates most efficiently, care and maintenance, and how the Russian military utilizes this weapon system for maximum effectiveness.

Class cost is $150. Class date is June 12th at Buffalo Creek Gun Club near Bailey Colorado. 400 rounds required.

Mean Streets Tactical Training strives for the optimum student to instructor ratio so this class is limited to 12 students.

Ivan and I were talking about the class last week. What we wanted people to know about the class is that it has some real differences in how the rifle is ran. Many of the techniques Ivan will showcase are very different than most of us US military shooters are used to seeing.

    For example:
The AK has a very different sight system but once you see how the Russian Army uses the sights, you will find it very usefull.
Disussions on how best to accessorize your AK.
There are some important maintenance items that people should know about the AK rifle.

Hopefully you can come out and have a great time running your rifle with us! See you on the range!

This looks like a great course for me to get accustomed to my new AK (and then some), however, if I can't commit to the June class, might there be another for 2011 or is it a once a year only?

    Thanks

    Comrades,

I hear a lot of complains from American shooters that AKs are inaccurate, they are not ergonomic and they just feel different, etc. Then I see same shooters add quad rails, peep sights, extended mag releases, dust covers with weaver rails, etc. Guys I must say that the AK platform is very different from M16/AR15 platform. Not only by design, but also the purpose. The biggest mistake the American shooters do, is they try to run AKs just like they run their ARs. I personally believe that the shooters do that due to lack of education and understanding of the system as whole. We are here to fix that.

Comrades come to the class and learn how to shoot AKs the Russian way!

    Ivan.

I think it is a fantastic idea and I hope to be there! How many of us have AKs and really can just point and shoot because of the relatively crude sights? I'd like to see what these Russkis can teach me!!

So far we only have this one class scheduled for this year. We want to gauge interest. We know this is an AR world out there. After the great Obama gun blitz though, we saw a LOT of folks buy AK's simply because of price and ammo cost.

As you can see, Ivan is really stoked about getting this class going!

Registration is easy, send an email to meanstreetstactical@hotmail.com. We ask for a $50 non refundable deposit and that locks your slot. That's it. Easy.

I think this class is going to be a hoot and super informative! I can tell you from personal experience training with Ivan, we have a lot of fun but run the guns HARD! Just the zeroing excersise is worth coming to the class. Really interesting.

i have a buddy who is an ex ukrainian army so i've learned alot from him. i advise anyone with an ak to learn the russian method for running your ak as almost everything is just about the opposite way you run an ar. once you learn and practice the russian methods the layout on an ak will make much more sense to you. if i am free in june i might want to come join you guys to sharpen what my buddy has taught me.
