    Default ICHF Conference

I don't know how many here are martial artists, or are interested in "unarmed" self defense, but I have been a student of Master Materkowski, and I can confidently say that this would be useful to anyone interested. I'm not getting anything out of this, I just wanted to make this available to anyone who would otherwise be unaware. (ICHF stands for International Combat Hapkido Federation-and don't be intimidated-beginners are welcome, all that's required is a good attitude!)

    2011 Annual
    Personal Protection Conference
The ICHF 2011 Rocky Mountain Region Personal Protection Conference is only 24 more days away! On the weekend of April 16 and 17, 2011, we will host Grandmaster John Pellegrini, at our 17th annual seminar. This year’s event promises to be both dynamic and fun filled. This year's conference will be held at a new location, the Doubletree Hotel, Denver (located at the Stapleton area). We will also be holding an Awards Banquet the evening of Saturday, April 16, in the Doubletree Hotel ballroom.

The conference schedule is now available on the regional website at www.ICHFColorado.com. Start planning which sessions you would like to attend. There is a NEW "Masters Clinic" scheduled for Saturday afternoon - this session is for "Black Belts Only".

As always, we will have a multitude of event sponsors and we will be giving away thousands of dollars of free prizes. At the conference in 2010 we gave away more than $6,000 in door prizes to conference attendees.

We are proud to announce the following instructors for this event:

    • Grandmaster Pellegrini, Founder of Combat Hapkido
    • Master Rivas, ICHF Director - Ground Survival
    • Master Gridley, ICHF Director - Anatomical Targeting Strategies
    • Master Materkowski, ICHF Rocky Mountain Region Director
    • Mr. Eric Mayes , Rocky Mountain Region Weapons Director

This event is open to everyone, ages 10 and older. Teaching will be done in a safe and conceptual manner, thereby allowing students to retain more information and advance at their own speed. The event's mix of Combat Hapkido, Ground Survival, Combat Kicking and Striking, Anatomical Targeting, and Defensive Weapons, guarantees those attending an outstanding weekend of dynamic self defense training. We welcome all systems and styles and no experience is necessary to attend. Students are encouraged to wear athletic attire and athletic shoes. Uniforms and belts are welcome.

    NEW TRAINING FORMAT
    Extreme Self Defense
The training for the 2011 Personal Protection Conference will be changed to a new format. This new training format is referred to by Grandmaster Pellegrini as "Extreme Self Defense". This new format will consist of Grandmaster Pellegrini, Master Rivas, and Master Gridley co-teaching a 3-4 hour morning session where they will teach together and blend open-hand, pressure points, and ground survival into an extended training session. This format has been rarely used and will prove to be very exciting and enjoyable for the participants. There will then be additional training sessions in the afternoons by Master Materkowski, Master Rivas, Master Gridley, and Mr. Mayes.

On Sunday morning, we will again repeat the "Extreme Self Defense" format with Grandmaster Pellegrini, Master Rivas, and Master Gridley, but weapons defense (knife, stick or gun) will be in incorporated into the self defense scenarios. Again, this will be a rare opportunity to train with the three principles of the ICHF at the same time. We will again offer additional afternoon training sessions to round out a full weekend of self defense training.

You do NOT want to miss this opportunity to participate in this exciting training format!

This has pretty much nothing to do with firearms, but most of the guys who are teaching are also NRA certified instructors, and this is an awesome experience for anyone who is looking to expand their self defense skills. Like I said, I am merely a student, so if anyone needs anything more than basic details, I would recommend contacting someone listed above instead of myself, or at least getting in touch with me so that I can direct you to where your questions would be best answered.

Mods-sorry if this is inappropriate, but I felt like this would be something that a few members are interested in. Please delete if necessary.

Steve is a personal friend of mine and a top hand. I was an instructor of his at Westside TKD, a Tae Kwon Do school that he owned and ran in the mid 90's. You really can't ask for better training at a fair price. He also runs Direct Response Training Inc., an excellent basic tactical school that hosts expert knife, pistol, carbine and shotgun instructors year-round offering superb training, again at a very fair price. One of their lead visiting instructors is Andy Stanford, a stud shooter, soldier trainer and all-around cool guy. It is in everyone's best interest to check out any training given by or sponsored by Steve Materkowski, whether you have heard of him or not. Local too.

Guylee & sneakerd- I know Steve appreciates the kind words & passing on the info. I'm one of the firearms instructors for DRT, mentioned in sneakerd's post, but it's actually Defensive Response Training.

Thanks again guys & if you can make it to the conference, I'm sure you'll have a great time & pick up some good info.

    Take care,
    Mike
