Was up at Pawnee last week, picked up all my brass, trash and what not, and filled my trunk with a garbage bag full of shotgun shells and shot pigeons. Got a lot of brass in calibers I don't use, but what the hell, if I get enough I might have to invest in another firearm.

Before it got shut down, there was a BIG clean up effort @ Rampart Range. Several members from this site went as well as volunteers from the Rocky Mtn Elk Foundation, several Ft. Carson units, USFS, etc.

The USFS brought in a huge construction dumpster but everybody who could haul it took a full load of garbage out with them too because the dumpster was overflowing.

The reports I hear were that they barely made a dent in all of the garbage that had been left up there. The sad thing is that 2 weeks after the cleanup, one of the cleanup participants went up to do some shooting and had this to say:

I would have taken a picture to post here, but it is just too disturbing how inconsiderate some people are. They just don't get it.

Additionally, had to be extra careful because of some people up there trying to scoop up spent brass before it even hits the ground after being ejected.

I think I can write Rampart Range off of my places to visit anymore.

While the shooting gave them the final excuse to shut it down, the constant reports of crime and the excess amounts of garbage were certainly driving forces in keeping the range shut down after the shooting investigation wrapped up.

Those that leave such messes will just go off and find some other place(s) to ruin when the established ranges get closed. It is those of us who are responsible that seem to lose the most so we have a vested interest in addressing those who leave messes if it is safe to do so and getting their license information and reporting them to the USFS in all cases.

You know I can almost put up with empty 22 cases because they're small and hard to pick up. But shotgun cartridges, 2 inches long and brighly colored, but I guess they're hard to spot and pick up too.

In the past 2 weeks I've been up past Jamestown and picked up 2 bucket fulls of the offending red, yellow, blue & green cartridges. My kids have a competition to see who can pick up the most.

I may have to find an alternative spot that is ideally less well known.

For every reason listed above I want them to close all of the open ranges and at the same time to keep them open and go out and do a weekly volunteer cleanup

Why in the hell is it I have to have a license to drive, a license to carry my firearm and a license to have a dog. Any two drunken idiots can have offspring that believe its their right to go out and fuck it up for the rest of us.

I flat out told one of my wife's friends last week I would turn their dumb-asses in. They had broken their TV during one of their domestic tirades and he was going to take it out and shoot it up.

Seriously, Shoot only Paper, Target grade plastic or clay. Then everything needs to go to be recycled or find its way to the trashcan. Amazingly simple, I know. No, I do not belong to MENSA.

Well people are pigs whether cigarette smokers or at the range. If there is no trash can to throw things they leave it lying on the ground.
I don't understand why people cannot even return grocery carts to the store or the holding areas. It is human nature and all I know to do is chastise them when I see it or pick up after them.

The fact you keep telling me that you are a power bottom doesn't make any difference.

All of your wishful thinking won't change anything.

I was wondering about the possibility of putting a trash bin out there. I assume idiots would just shoot that too, but there seems to be enough of us on here that use the same few sites that we may be able to maintain a couple trash barrels. Just pull the bag when you leave kind of thing. Might be worth asking the forest service about. I worry every time I head to the south site because the place is a dump, and the number of times I have seen people tack their targets to trees. Its just going to get shut down unless something is done. Maybe even a sign, just "don't shot trees, pack out what you bring in"

    Opinions?

you are talking about people that cannot pour piss from a boot with the instructions written on the heel

Trashcans and signs would be used as targets/holders.

Had another idea! what of a cleaning day, organized with all of us knowing, but get some side benefits going to get people there. Maybe get some kind of carbine/pistol class going, I'm sure a few on here are capable to teach something? little multi-gun match? Even just running a bunch of drills together? Admission is a bag of trash and 20 rounds and 20 bucks for the instructor? I bet we could even throw together something of a prize event, or come up with funds to pay a proper instructor. Kind of a pay it forward.

if we let the areas forest service office know we are trying might help our cause too.

I'm basically just throwing turds at a wall and hoping one sticks.

I think I will throw this idea up as its own thread in the GD and see what interest it gets.
