CRC Long Range Precision Rifle
OK, here it finally is -- sorry for the teases but it's becoming a reality.
A new long range rifle match coming to the front range shooters.
Many kudos to Hoser as we are openly stealing and consulting with him to build upon the Pueblo West Steel Dogs match that we all love. After touring the Colorado Rifle Club, seeing what a great facility it is, and experiencing the willingness of the BOD to promote the shooting sports, we had to figure out another LR match that "we would like to shoot". Also thanks to our WHAC friends (Cy&Juan) helping get it launched.
Inaugural Match: Sunday, April 24th (yep, Easter Sunday)
For the initial match, Easter Sunday was the only option. But, beginning in May the CRC LRPR match's regular date will be on the 4th Saturday.
Yes, it's a conflcit with the Weld County 3Gun match and we feel badly about that. When you look at the other long range matches, what was available at CRC, and trying to minimize other match conflicts, the 4th Saturday is the best option.
Here are the details for your review. Again, if you're comfortable with the rules, procedures, and flow of Hoser's Steel Dogs, this match will be very similar. Don't expect all prairie dog targets but comparable shooting challenges with a bit of extended range (out to 500m/547yds).
Below are the high level details. We'll post the remainder of the details in a separate post.
So, come on out to the Colorado Rifle Club during the next couple of months and give it a try.
LR Precision Format Match, Held by/at The Colorado Rifle Club.
Another shooting sport discipline added to the CRC’s pro-shooting sports principles.
See www.crci.org for the Colorado Rifle Club specifics including directions, club information, membership applications, and calendar of events. It’s a great shooting venue.
CRC is approximately 15 minutes NE of Byers, CO (on I-70). Approximately 45 mins East of I-70 & Gun Club Road (near the Aurora Gun Club).
Match Directors: RJ (quickdraw) & Ken (k2peaker)
Location: Colorado Rifle Club (CRC) in Byers, CO CRC Silhouette Range (between the East range and the 1000 yd range)
Date: Inaugural Match: April 24, 2011 (Easter Sunday). Regular monthly matches will be the 4th Saturday of every month (Feb-Nov, conditions permitting)
Time: 10:00AM MT Start
Total Rounds: Nominally 40, 50 rounds max.
Concept: This match is based upon Pueblo West’s Prairie Dog matches. Differences are that we will shoot targets ranging in size and shape from distances of 200 meters (219 yards) to 500 meters (547 yards). As we will be shooting on CRC’s Silhouette range, our targets will need to be placed in front of the available silhouette berms.
This is an excellent shooting venue that fits the LR Precision Rifle format well, within the limitations of a fixed range. To begin, we’ll keep it simple like Pueblo West’s matches. Over time, we may experiment with one field course (with movement, barricades, obstacles, alternate shooting positions) as we work through how to pull that off. Our primary safety limitation is keeping targets in front of the silhouette berms (misses to impact downrange berms).
The CRC Silhouette range has a slightly elevated shooting line with a few concrete benches but many concrete pads for prone shooting. Prone will be encouraged but benches are available. All berms / targets will be visible from all designated shooting positions.
Distance of berms – targets will be placed close to the following berm distances:
200m or 219 yards,
300m or 328 yards,
385m or 421 yards, and
500m or 547 yards.
Targets:
4 or 5 Stages consisting of engaging 10 Steel Targets ranging from 219-547 yards shot under time constraints. Note: we may experiment with 4 stages of 12 targets to get close to the 50 round count goal. It depends upon stage clearing times.
Target sizes will range from Steel Prairie Dogs to reactive steel 6” plates, 8” plates, and hanging steel in various shapes/sizes.
Match Fee: $15 entry fee (per gun), Juniors (under 18) free
Each competitor will shoot the stage four or five times requiring no more than 50 rounds.
One shot per target. No make-up shots.
No penalties for misses, only points earned for hits.
15 total seconds allowed per shot. Targets hit within the first 10 seconds are worth 10 points. Hits between 10.01 seconds and 15.00 seconds are worth 5 points. If the competitor does not take a shot before 15.01 seconds or shoots after 15.01 seconds, it is a 10 point penalty, hit or miss.
