    Default Elk Calls?

Going BlackPowder hunting this year and was wondering what any of you guys used for elk calls? I need to pick something up and get to practicing soon. I've only used a double reed turkey call and a bugle tube for this. I'm sure some of you have mastered this, any ideas?

I use Primos cow calls. Not only can you call bulls and cows in closer, you can stop them for a moment for a decent shot if they decide to head the other way.

I use Carlton diaphragm reeds. They take some practice but sound great and I can control the pitch, length, loudness, etc. cant do that with a hoochie momma. The single reed is good to start with but the double and triple reeds are where its at.

I use either primos or wayne carlton mouth calls and a tube. An old vacuum tube is all you need or spend the money on a camo wrapped one.
Takes practice but you will get it no problem. The wayne carlton I really like the double reed and can get some deeper bugles. The primos has a different feel and a plate in it to keep shape. Little higher pitched which is good to sound like a younger less dominate bull.
Both are easy to cow call with. Practice that first

Go to walmart and most of them have a primos 3 pack on sale with a cd to listen to for under $15.
Most of those calls are $5 or under.
All I have in this world is my balls and my word and I don't break em for no one.

Sweet. I've been thinking about the Primo's calls. They have a great hunting show and team. I've been calling for years, just never bought a true elk call. I've just used a turkey diaphram call and I want to do a better job this year.

I have a hoochie mama and it works great. I was just wanting something else to bugle and squeel with.

X2 on the Primos. If you can blow a turkey call, you can blow an elk call. Primos also has a great CD that tells you when and how to call an elk. I've called in a lot of critters in my life but nothing is like calling in a big old snorting stomping 6x6 bull that comes in within 15 yards of you.

Another thing, I switched a couple of years ago to the Primos dome calls. I really like them a lot. If I have ever had a hero besides my dad and President Ronald Reagan, it would be Will Primos. Great guy and a great hunter that puts out a great product.

I use Sceery calls! The ACE-1 special Elk call is the easiest call to use. It's a bite call and very hard to screw up. Pluss Sportsmans has a good selection and sometimes has 3 call pack. I call in more bulls with a cow call than I do with a bugle.
