Default play in front sight post?

noticed the otherday while fiddling around with the AR, that my front sight post, along with the detent, wiggle a little bit. (movement front to back, not side-to-side)

I was wondering if this is a normal occurence or if this is something to be remedied?

if it is a problem, is it just as simple as tightening it, or do I need to do something more?

    thanks,
    Kenny

    What brand rifle?
Is it an excessive amount of play to where the detent will not hold the post in place?
How far is the sight post backed out for elevation purposes?
There could be a few factors such as a poorly machined FSB, out of spec post and or detent, weak detent spring etc.

    BCM 16" midlength upper

The post/detent/FSB are all stock bravo company parts that came on my upper.

the amount of play is not very much, not enough to move the post itself, but it is noticeable, and will move back and forth if I use my fingers in the front sight base. (I would guess about 1-2 mm on each side, I'll check this when I'm home)

the base of the post itself is flush with the front sight base, and has not been adjusted since I bought the upper about 5 months ago.

Dunno if this helps at all, but it just seems weird that something so new with so little rounds through it (only about 500-600) would be loose?

    Hope this helps,
    Kenny

It might be a smidge loose, but it is designed to be a bit loose. You don't want a bit of sand/dirt/grit to cause it to be immovable.
It is a quality upper to be sure so QC should not be an issue.
I checked my Colt and it is a little loose.
As long as the post will not turn without depressing the detent intentionally I wouldn't sweat it too much.
