    Default "Unregistered Handgun"

    WTF Omaha?

    http://www.omaha.com/article/2011041...oice-but-shoot

Why would you have to register your handgun with anyone?

Omaha has handgun registration. I lived there for about 6 months back in the 80's...It was the longest 3 years of my life.

Hall said he was not aware that he had to register his gun in Omaha. He said he registered it in California when he bought it 20 years ago while working security for Hughes Aircraft, and he thought that was sufficient.
    ...
“I went in and was calling out, ‘I'm the homeowner, I have a gun, I'm just looking, just come out, I don't want to scare you,'” Hall said. “I said several times, ‘I have a gun' and ‘If you are here, let me know.'”
    ...
He said he pointed the gun at “center mass” and yelled, “Freeze, don't move, I'm the homeowner, I have a gun, don't move.'”

    ...
“Someone is pointing a gun at you, shouting ‘freeze, don't move,' you don't rush at the guy,” Hall said. “He (King) wasn't thinking logically. He wasn't acting right.”

So with a gun pointed at him (James King) rushes Hall? I would have blasted him too.

The first excerpt alone should be sufficient in getting Hall out of this mess.

No salt needed. The city of Omaha does require handgun registration. See http://www.opd.ci.omaha.ne.us/servic...n-registration

The state of Nebraska does not.

The area where the shooting took place is very high crime. The owner should have had a shotgun.

Omaha requires their residents to register their handguns. My sister worked in the DA's office a few years back. The Nebraska State Unicameral has passed legislation that you don't have to register a handgun if you have a CCW. they are also looking at overriding Omaha's law. We should send this to Alan Gura at the 2nd Amendment Foundation so he can look at fighting this.

Heh. Its better than our nation's capitol, Washington D.C., where up until recently it was ILLEGAL to own a handgun within the city limits. Even today you have to register all guns and pay hundred$ in fees plus some training class. Gay.

Sorry, back on topic. I grew up just south of Omaha and I agree that its dumb to have to register them. I dont see the point.

Colorado Springs had that carbon paper form for registration up until 2002 or thereabouts. I can't find a copy anymore, it was smaller than a 3x5 card and the customer copy was green or blue.

Not quite as long ago I asked someone knowledgeable here about the warning you sometimes hear over the scanner about weapons known to be at a location, and that info was because of prior police activity not some evil database.

Nebraska is weird. I always thought it would be a place where guns were accepted more and more of a way of life...guess not if you have to register your stuff there.
