Thread: Swim Lessons

    Default Swim Lessons

Laugh at me if you want, but I'm a pretty bad swimmer, so I've decided to take swim lessons. I took em as a kid, and I can backfloat, swim on my back, and underwater decently, but I can't do the standard freestyle, breaststroke (huhuh, i said breast and stroke), etc.

Any opinions on a good place? I live super close to a local YMCA, but I don't want to have to pay their membership fee (which I think you have to just to take lessons there).

I'm in the southwest Denver area

I would suggest checking your local city rec center. Most of them have swim facilities and using a resident type pass shouldn't be too expensive.

Yup- I think swim lessons for the kids ran about 40.00 when we had them go. Money well spent.

My Dad taught me to swim.

I've often wondered what swim classes for adults run, cost-wise. I personally am a great swimmer, and I've even had people ask me to teach them. I would like to teach my fiance when I get some time cleared up on my schedule. I used to teach swimming lessons before I started teaching kung fu.

I'm a big fan of the Total Immersion system of swim instruction. I thought I was a good swimmer until I got their free style DVD and saw how they broke down the stroke. If you run across a TI trained instructor give them a shot.

Too bad your not down here man. My wife is a friggin' dolphin. She'd teach you for way less than any local lesson or YMCA place.

Inconel - Total Immersion... That's funny. My dad taught me and my brother how to swim by throwing us out a boat in the middle of a lake and saying, "See you on shore."
