Not much. WRPD seemed like they wanted to work with us at first but nothing since it went to the detective, I know they're busy...right. My wife and I spent all day yesterday following the transactions and this thief/s must be a seasoned vet as almost every place they went had no video. The places that did I need WRPD to get a court sipena(sp?). We did get transaction info from our bank that gives us detail on when, what and exact register this person used at walmart but again I can't get a looky at the tapes. Also, went to Advanced Auto Parts on 72nd and Federal where $180 was spent but no video...the lady there did remember the transaction and said the person was a female with my wifes name but not my wifes picture in an ID. So I'm thinking our cards were stolen from my wifes place of work then sold to their friends because transactions were made all over the place. I do know that the auto part bought was for a '95 Jetta and the female was fat with bad teeth. Anyway, seems like it's in WRPD hands...

My wife feels defeated and most likely leaving her job as no one there seems to care and this was pretty much the last straw.

the police department is about results. arrests and convictions make them look good and gets them budget increases, so that's what they focus all their effort on.

if there is little chance of a conviction, or if the conviction will take too much effort, they give up. it doesn't matter how much injustice and crime happens or how much the people suffer for it.

Well the WRPD has a list of places where transactions were made plus exact register number at walmart. So really there's is no effort except for the court sipena and drive there to look at the video tape.

It takes more than "a court subpoena (proper spelling)". To get that subpoena or actually, a search warrant, the detective has to WRITE that search warrant, then it has to get reviewed by the D.A.'s office, and after approval, then go to the judge for review and signature, if the judge approves it. In the larger counties in the Metro area, that process is a week, at least.

With warrant in hand, the Detective then can obtain the videos, bank records, financial transaction records, etc. Once compiled, the Detective can then attempt to determine through them, if he can identify suspects. We don't have the CSI crap seen on TV. We can't enhance video and increase pixels that aren't there. We don't have facial recognition.

What you suspect is one of the your wife's co-workers, but what can be proven? Not a hell of a lot right now. With video, what do you have? A picture of the suspect. Not like they are going to hold up their ID to the camera. Might be able to follow them on camera out to the parking lot and see what type of vehicle they get in and possibly get a partial plate number. A good ID of the vehicle might result in a list of those vehicles in Colorado. Might be able to cross reference owners with DL pictures, might not.

Once a suspect is identified, then an affidavit needs to be drafted. The argument of why this person committed this crime. The D.A.'s office is again involved and they can make the decision on whether or not they are going to file a case or not, whether the case will have an arrest warrant drafted or if a felony summons will be issued. Or, they may "no file" the case, which means they do not believe they have a good chance of conviction and are passing on prosecution.

And guess what? The Detective may have a dozen or so similar cases on his desk and your case isn't the only one he is working. They take time. It isn't TV, where they find and arrest the suspect in an hour.

The statute of limitation on this type of crime is 3 YEARS. The Detective has 3 years to file a case with the D.A.'s office. Sometimes, it takes that long.

So Elhuero and his constant anti-cop bullsh*t gets tiring. Yep, you got us Elhuero. We are all lazy assed cops pulling a paycheck and not wanting to do any damn work. Right.

Dangit, I was REALLY busy at work.
Did I miss the Cop Bashing Thread?
    (I Kid)

so wait... wait a Minute, what you are saying is that you cannot just pick up the phone and call the judge and he faxes you a warrant? Maybe emails it to your blackberry?

I Do sympathize with Opie and Wife, the whole thing sucks.
    but...

I dont think throwing stones will solve anything. Cops do what they can in a system that is so broken some judges cannot even navigate it.
Blaming Cops for the inability to prosecute crime is like blaming the guy at the McDonald's drive-thru for Obesity.

    Just don't make sense.

now I am all for the "Bash the butt-head" not doing his job because he is too busy generating revenue. But yeah, Believe it or not, Gil Grissom wont show up with a CSI team to investigate who stole your car stereo.

First off...thanks for being my spelling NAZI. I'm sure you'll get me on proper grammar as well!

Second, that sure sounds like a lot of work just to get to the point of, "meh this case isn't worth pressing charges but I'm sure glad we wasted enough tax payers dollars to reach this conclusion".

Finally, this isn't TV?....NO SHIT. I know detectives are busy so thats why I did my own leg work for them and in no way was my statement you quoted, anti-cop. So please do me a favor and get off your high horse. I do respect authorities and all LE people so please stop feeling like you're being "ganged" up on.
