I don't want federal (or state) funding of *any* research, but cherry picking one type in particular for purely religious reasons strikes me as obnoxious.

Nothing worse than doing the right thing for the wrong reasons.

dammit, now why you gotta go saying that, making me agree with you?

reminds me of some bible belt states that make laws regarding Sunday simply because "Ya'll should be in Church, Boy."

I Say we get rid of bigamy laws as well.
Anyone lucky enough, dumb enough or crazy enough to have more than one wife should be allowed.

You could also just try swinging. That could be fun, too.

There are a lot of weird and unconstitutional laws out there.

Some states make it illegal to own firearms without an official permission slip.

Some states make it illegal for an unmarried man and woman to spend the night in the same house. These states often make it illegal for a married couple to engage in oral sex as well. I think in Alabama it is still a crime for a woman to order a vibrator through the mail.

Some municipal ordinances are just as bad. Many towns and counties are "dry" and no alcohol can be sold there. I remember one Southern city that wanted to start charging people with "indecent exposure" if a policeman could see their underwear.

When the government starts meddling too much in people's private lives, people resent it and lose respect for the law.

Who does probably the most research out of any person or organization? DARPA and Army.
Where do DARPA and the Army get their funding? The govt.
Where does the govt get its money? Your taxes.
And I'm completely OK with that.

Privately owned research facilities on the other hand, they can find their own damn funding.

On one hand, unless somebody is causing some kind of harm to others, the gov has no place telling people what they can and can't do.
But on the other, I wouldn't really mind that particular law... all these kids walking around with their pants so far down they can go take a piss without adjusting anything just look ridiculous.
