Default Having a gun in the car in Denver?

What's the status on having a loaded handgun in your car without a CCL in Denver? Is it something that I shouldn't worry about?

Another thing that I'm unsure of is do we have to tell a LEO that there's a gun in the car if they don't ask? Naturally I'd let them know immediately if they asked or needed to search my car or whatever but I don't see the point if it's just a routine traffic stop or something like that and they don't bother to ask.

i am not sure about denver but i have been told by LEO that having a concealed handgun in your car is perfectly legal in colorado because they consider it an extension of property of some sort.
i dont know the exact statute but i asked pueblo county sheriff's office about it and i was told it's perfectly legal as long as your not a felon or what ever.
i am sure hunterco has the exact statute he is good at finding that stuff

100% Legal state wide including Denver. The law was passed about two years before the shall issue law taking away Denvers ban on loaded handguns in cars.

That's what I figured. Thanks for reaffirming for me. What about telling a LEO that you have a gun in the car? Do I have to tell them immediately or can I wait till they ask? Why complicate things by mentioning you have a gun when they're just writing you a ticket for speeding or something like that?

Well that and if you would expose the weapon while reaching for the requested paperwork. I actually spoke with a Weld County deputy about this on Sunday up at Pawnee.. he said that he prefers to know and appreciates it when people let him know so he can ask them to keep their hands clear and in plane sight.

So if you're going to be reaching into the glove box where you piece and registration is, you should let the officer know. If it's under your seat or something, then yeah, you wouldn't really need to let them know.
