Biking, road, mountain or both, definately has a steep price of admission when all is said and done, assuming you do it right. Can and often does make buying weapons and related parts "look cheap" in comparison don't it?

Worth it in my book, feels great to take a few hours solo or with a partner of equal or better technical skills, hit the hills and just pound and grind mercilessly while tossin' in some brutal "holy f***" moments.

Great compliment to any fitness regime (I prefer strength training as my core) and it helps to keep me "young and pretty" if you over-look the scars.

Just the seat alone looks incredibly painful. Don't think I'd care for that thing wedged in my ass, and I'm SURE the twins wouldn't like it either.

If the seat hurts your ass get some padded bike shorts (and or a seat cover), they work pretty well.

If its you lower back or neck that hurts you, its the geometry of the bike that is hurting you. This can be adjusted with seat positioning and handlebar positioning (mostly). Go back to the shop and tell them whats going on and they should help you out. If not go to another bike shop for some better service.

And like one of the other posters said "stick to it". Today its just making down the street and back, tomorrow a little farther, and so on, and so on. You will be surprised at how far you can you can go in a few months time!

Good luck and don't give up.

Ok, so I'm still confused about the whole "no kickstand" thing, WTF? Are you supposed to find a perfect balance for the bike and just "place" it? See, I don't own a [non motorized] bike, but if I were to go shopping for one and it didn't have a kickstand I would be wondering had badly I really wanted one!

For the rider: Weight ("less than ounces matter" if you are serious) and safety (no extraneous parts).

For the Mfgr and/or supplier: You guessed it...partially...cost per build and/or then retail uplift to cover. Also, they build to purpose, an MTB intended for "real use" is not targeted to a consumer desirous of a kick-stand (i.e. "don't give me the added cost and weight for worthless parts that are going to get yanked-off as soon as I buy it.")

PSA - No reflectors either, take that shit off your wheels, your stem and your seat post unless your intended use is pure "urban" road-sharing.

My wife and I bought "comfort" bikes (Specialized brand) just before we retired last year.
You sit more upright and the seat is padded with springs. We rode them this morning. She had a knee replaced three months ago. I've had six heart operations. No problems riding for either of us.

It's funny, because the only option is to lean your bike or lay it down, both are things that I remember my mom got upset about when I did it with my bike "that's what kickstands are for" she would say .
