Default IWB Carry and mag releasing

I wanted to see if anyone else has this same problem and any solutions.

I carry my M&PC 9 in one of Dain's IWB holsters, please keep in mind I am 100% sure the holster isnt casuing this issue and the holster is AWESOME .

When I carry this at the 4:00 position or just slighty between my wallet pocket and my love handle the mag releases when I ride in a car. Mind you this doesnt happen at my desk chair, couch, recliner, movies etc etc, just when I drive a car. Does anyone else have this problem.

I tested my Sig P238, Glock 23 and Glock 26 along with this M&P and the mag release on the Smith is every bit as firm as those other pistols. Also this isnt associated with the M&P mag release issues from years ago. The mag never drops while firing.

Obviously I dont want to carry a single shot firearm, 12 is much better.

Do you think reversing the mag catch to the left side will help, I feel like it will just hit the car seat and do the same. Do you think this could be caused with new magazines that are very tight, maybe load 10 rounds vs 11. The mag does require quite a push to get it to seat when loaded all the way up.

Last thing I want to do is sell this gun because of a problem with me, not the gun.

Could be all my table muscle too ?

Had the same problem w/ my MP9 w/ a crossbreed (same style holster) some careful trimming of the leather did the trick... Or it might have been losing the love handles.. I prefer to think it was the leather.

Didn't have a problem with it on my other holster..

Not to knock Dains work, I think it's just one of those 'things' that happen. The kydex is stiff enough when you sit and the leather pushes into the mag release.. Just a slight design thing, like I said. It didn't happen when I had it in a VM2.. just my crossbreed till I chopped it.

I am trying to blame it on the leather too

To bad I forgot everything I learned in Jr High or I would trim the leather

If you trim the leather so its not on the mag release, it should fix the problem.

The short time I carried my M&P, I didn't have this problem, but it probably is the holster just because it's leather...leather flexes. I had this same problem with my Lasermax on my Glock...I got up from lying down on the couch and my pants were glowing. I had Rob at Bowers cut down the left side of the takedown lever so I wouldn't push it in the holster. I wouldn't recommend shortening the mag release, though.

Does the leather cover the mag release?

Yes the leather does cover the mag release.

Glad you said dont cut the mag release down, I was considering that.

Few years back crossbreed started their 'combat cut' on the leather backing.. it looks a lot like my MTAC now, and basically how I cut down the crossbreed for my MP when I figured out that's what was causing the mag release.. lost some comfort.. but i'll take a little poke over only having one shot if SHTF..

Trim up the leather, perhaps see if Dain can assist you with it, if you don't feel comfy doing it.. it was a pretty rough cut when I did mine, had to take a dremel to it and smooth it down. After that though it was fine.

Thank you guys, looks like I have a date with an exacto knife shortly. I might try and cut out a circle or square pattern directly over the mag relase.

    Still loving the holster though

Careful w/ that.. don't want to make anything snag when you draw.. Seriously, take a look at the MTAC at www.comp-tac.com.

Try and mimic the cut above the kydex. Don't just do a hole/square.

Ok so that wasnt to painful,

( I lacerated a finger once with a hooked blade on changing golf grips. Slipped and the hook went in under my fingernail and came out at the second knucle lengthwise....ouch and 17 stitches I am more careful. When I got printed for my CCW the sherriff said "well if that isnt unique" hehehehe)

Cut a small square notch out if the leather where it would cover the mage release about 1/4" by 1/2" so now the whole mag release is visible and untoched by leather when pressing on it. If the problem continues I am calling Jenny Craig
