    Many many years ago back when I lived in Brooklyn Ny,our apartment building had them.
    You look out the back windows and that's all you saw were lines all over the place!
    And you can tell when somebody was doing laundry by the indistinctive squeak it had when they were putting their clothes out.

    I forget what bird it is but it makes the same exact sound!I allways called it the squeaky clothsline bird since I was a kid..

    Out side of Gunnison you got a property tax credit if you had a clothesline. Every house and local business had some loose form of one.

    We had a hog farm next to ours when I was a kid. This had an interesting result on drying clothes over the line....

    In fact I think that's how the neighbor boy got the nickname 'pigshit'
