I'm early/mid 30s and I have zero debt. I ate ramen and pb&j for a long time to make it happen. The hard part is that you have to justify to yourself as to why you're not eating out, going to movies, participating in hobbies, etc. while you chop away at your debt.

If there's only so much money coming in, then mass as much as you can as early as you can to the debts that have the highest interest rate. Once that debt has been eliminated, roll that payment into the next laon/debt. It's easy if you try.

Now, my wife and I live off of less than $2500/month. We save and invest and don't incur more debt. It's a pretty nice feeling that in about 8 years I can just disappear and be financially independent.
Just doing what I can to stay on this side of the dirt.

    Congrats man, that's awesome!

We had zero debt until we bought a brand new house... now we owe $$$$$ on that, but everything else is paid off. It's nice only having 1 monthly bill to worry about. If we can at least maintain our current joint income, we can have our 30yr mortgage paid off in about 20 years while still living comfortably and enjoying raising our kids.

We have yet to buy a house. We're saving (not spending) every month with one of the specific goals of buying a house within the next 6 years or so. I think I'm on my way out of the military due to medical reasons, and I'd like to get the house bought and set up before the craziness of dealing with the VA and all that.

That's a good plan. Borrow as little money as possible and you'll never regret it. (Unless of course we start hyperinflating or something)
