Take care of the timing belt on that Jetta Mike..... you'd best replace it before you get to 50K.

Been there done that. It's at 145k now. Other than two blown EGR Coolers and now this smoked tranny.. which will also lead to a clutch and DMF, it was a good car til a week ago.

So, completely aside from relaxing on my usually great budgeting, and spending much more than I should have, we ran into about $800 worth of unexpected expenses. Now I'm torn between the feelings of, "I just had to shell out $800 that I didn't see coming!" and "I just had to shell out $800 that I didn't see coming, BUT, I paid it ALL, and was able to continue on as usual by the next pay check!"​

the first thing I would look for is to see what other models use that same transmission. I'm assuming pretty much all the MK5 (2006 is a MK5, right?) TDi have the same transmission?
