Over exposure to nasty old(been accumulating more than 10yrs) dust while cleaning out shop, led to asthma attack last nite.

Should have worn blasting hood to protect against dust. Sometimes the beard causes issues.

Hantavirus, IIRC, is exceedingly, crazy rare, but also crazy fatal - like close to 50%. I think it less common than even plague.... so if you're about half dead, and did some weird stuff with a ton of mice a week ago, and intentionally snorted lines of powdered turds then maybe consider it, but otherwise don't fret even if you have heavy mouse exposure.

I know I've had field mice in my garage, so I try to be careful sweeping it out. Maybe I'm just paranoid.

I think you understand correctly. Since they started getting info in 1993. Was primarily posting the distribution map regarding the range of where it's found and being 'too far north'.

It's rare, but I'm lucky that way.
