Oh crap! I forgot to offset the radius of the earth at 30k ft, I calculated it at the 34th parallel (very crudely of course) on the ground. If I really wanted to give you a correct answer, I'd get it spot on, but I'm too lazy for that. Maybe I'll save this question and do it on my next work shift.




I posed the same question to a co-worker some years ago and asked him to show his work. He did it as far as I can tell, but I forgot what he came up with. Knowing what the circumference is 30,000 feet up, let alone accounting for the climb and descent is where I quickly get lost. I should run this by my youngest son, he was a CS/math major before he changed to EE.
