Got a crash course in concrete tonight. Family blew the horn for help laying his patio. WAY more concrete than I was expecting. 10 yards and it wasn't enough in the end. Thank God we had a seasoned concrete guy there to show us our ass from our elbows. The concrete guy kept talking about what a bad job it was, but for none of us having ever done it before, and my buddy saving like $8,000. I thought it turned out alright. I sure won't have trouble drinking beer on the patio this summer.

Rope is to hold broom because handle is too short to reach?
Yes. I never would have thought of that. It was a long handle broom, but there were spots where it wasn't long enough. The tools are just stuff that general contractor guys had, so they were a bit busted up and not ideal. The guy driving the concrete truck definitely laughed at us a few times. Not for being on the roof, that was way later, but just us figuring out what to do in general.

Doesn't look bad at all from what you've shown.
Finishing flat concrete is an art, but you can get pretty decent with some elbow grease and patience.
Having some of the right tools (bull float especially, even if home made of wood) makes a HUGE difference...
I liked using the Folsom(?) at the end. It felt like the finish coat of drywall mud. There are a lot of areas that will be a permanent reminder of our first time, but the home owner and I are still happy about the end result. I purposely didn't take pictures of those.

He's gonna regret putting that bend in the side there if he ever wants to park anything on it or sell and the buyers be like "WTF irving's family dude?"
