My 26" .22lr bolt action with CCI quiets is WAY more quiet than my neighbor's Gamo Whisper. No way I'd mess with it with the bike path/green belt as a back stop though.

I really only mentioned the bike path as a source of people that could hear or see what I was doing. I would hope all of you would expect I wouldn't shoot towards it, and not question that.

To be fair to my neighbor's Whisper, while it is significantly louder than my .22, the sound is different. I just sounds like a loud spring noise. Also, I'd still be more likely to shoot at stuff with that Gamo than a .22. I don't have enough yard to mess around with that.

A bolt .22 with subs should be barely louder than the hammer drop. :-) The 10/22 isn't even close with the auto action. I haven't tried holding it closed, I understand that cuts it down a lot.

The air rifle *is* different. I wouldn't' call the Whisper "springy" as there isn't one, just an air cylinder. Hard to describe.

It is a bummer to hear about the truck however, that shit sucks no matter what, but it always seems a bit harder to absorb when it's self inflicted. I am familiar with the feeling.

The only slightly saving grace on the truck ding is I had just put on 3M door edge tape on the camper compartment door precisely because it didn't clear the tailgate. It appears that may have saved the paint a bit more than otherwise.

Your neighbor might be using supersonic pellets. The Crossman hollow points I use are subsonic out of this rifle @750FPS (though now that I have one, I want to chrono them!)

The penalty is the same for either. However you should try 22 shorts, or stick with the pellet gun..
