Well, since you asked for opinions, here's mine. If long range accuracy is your goal I would definitely look for the best quality barrel you can afford. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying a $250 barrel won't be just as good as a $450 barrel. I am just saying I wouldn't personally buy a sub-$200 barrel for that intended purpose. I think you are spot on with your twist rate. I would go with the 1:8 myself because I feel this gives excellent results with a wide range of bullet weights. As far as the bolt and carrier are concerned I am of the belief that any quality mil-spec parts will do. Others may disagree with that comment. I think the toughest part of your decision might be deciding on the chambering you want to use. 5.56? .223 Remington? .223 Wylde? I think if I were going for long range accuracy I would put the .223 Remington first (since that what all of my reloading dies are), the .223 Wylde second (as it appears to be a good comprmise in accuracy for both the 5.56 and the .223 Rem.), and the 5.56 NATO last.

Like I said, just my opinion. Others may disagree. Good luck!

I'd take a hard look at the barrels that J&T sells. I've got one of their 24" 1-9 twist SS bull barrels that shoots 55gr Noslers into .35" at a 100yds. I've also got a 16" 1-9" CM bull barrel that shoots M193 stuff into 1" at 100yds. Both are Wilson barrels and have Wylde chambers and are really excellent shooters. I think they are selling the 24" 1-8" SS bull barrel for $200. Personally I'd prefer the Wylde chamber as it'll shoot either .223 or Nato ammo without any pressure concerns. YMMV on this point, but I think for the price they are excellent barrels.
    Popper, what's a popper???
