Default Central Colorado Campout/Shoot 20-22 MAY

Hey all! It's that time again. Here it goes...same deal as before. Great views, Great company, Great shooting!!!!!! Camping will be up by Tarryall Reservior (about 4 miles south of the dam on Turner Gulch Rd) from 20-22 May.

Location: From the Springs, West on HWY24 through the Ute Pass. Stay on 24 past Florissant. Make a right turn onto County Rd 77 and stay on that for about 28miles. You'll come to Tarryall Reservior. Just before the reservior take Turner Gulch road (left turn) and follow that about four miles. We'll be camping off to the right. Here are grids:

A few of us will be going up on Friday...it's a 3 day weekend for me so anyone is willing to come up that night. Plan on staying until Sunday afternoon. Bad news is I'll be PCS'ing soon so this is the last shoot I'm going to be organizing. If anyone wants to continue these campouts the spot is perfect. There's a fire ring up there and plenty of wood to be scavenged. I'll be bringing some steel and cardboard for paper targets as well. We'll set up a rifle range and pistol/rimfire area as well. We'll have targets at known distances and if you want to shoot long range we can figure out your dope. Bring it all. You can access the site by car if you take it easy. One snipershide member had his BMW up there last year. If you're willing bring some food to share. I'll bring some dogs and mountain pies (2 layers of bread with pizza sauce, cheese, and pepperoni), and some other stuff along with water and some beer. At the least bring food for yourself!

******Please note that alcohol will only be consumed when the firearms are put away. Follow this rule along with firearms safety rules or you'll be asked to leave.

We'll have first aid bags on site but the nearest hospital is an hour away by vehicle so the last thing we want is an accident. Recommend you bring a tent, decent sleeping bag (nights are still pretty chilly up there), and a good amount of water as well.
Don't forget your ammo! There will be plenty of shooting to be had. Post up if you're coming or have questions. Here's a few pics from previous shoots:

Oh man, if only this were the following weekend! I was planning on going to moab that week, and while i might come back early for this, i dont think I may be that enthusiatic then about going from a wheeling camping trip to a shooting camping trip...swore i would not be away from my bed for more than a week if Im not downrange, ha.

Anything like this going on in the next 3 -4 weeks (while im still on block leave)?

It's the last one I'm putting together but that's not saying that others won't plan another.

In the light of the fires in the area I'm asking that everyone ensure they do not bring tracers, and that they do bring any extra fire extinguishers/water/rakes & shovels. Park county is under Stage 1 fire restrictions but rain is predicted between now and the shoot. I have also been in contact with the Park Co. Sheriff and will apply for a burn permit for the camp fire if the restriction is not dropped in the next two weeks.

Theres a good hill that makes a decent back stop and nothing beyond that for miles. Contrary to popular belief a bullet that strikes the ground and riccochets still does not travel far...and there's nothing beyond what were shooting for 6 or 7 miles. On the Ft. Carson M4 and M240 ranges you can see houses that are closer than the ones in the distance where we shoot....with two good sized hills and a lot of land between us and them. We've safely shot out there for the past few years with no issues. We shoot the the W / SW. Have you ever been to the site? You'll see what I mean if you come on out. Looking at it on Google Earth doesn't show you anything unfortunately.

Been over there Prospecting, The Ranch land is only 1/4 mile from the road on the west side so be careful. The one photo looks like some one with a handgun shooting with out a back stop.

I'm thinking about going. I'll let you know next week

Sounds good Bill. There is Ranch land to the west but we shoot at a southwestern direction. I even took Surface Danger Zone info to make sure that any ricochetts still land safely. We are very, very safe if that's your concern.
