Sure is peculiar to wake up and see your refrigerator on fire. Wakes you up a hell of a lot faster than coffee.
The culprit: compressor relay switch. Damn.
It was an interesting morning.

Wow, it's a good thing you happened to be home! Total loss or can you replace the burnt parts?

I've seen lots of those burn up. I replace them all the time on the commercial coolers. Never seen them catch fire though. Was it just smoldering and making a lot of smoke or did it actually lite on fire?
Also make sure your start capacitor didn't blow. When those the relays stick closed the start capacitors will over heat and blow out a small hole on the top and it makes a TON of smoke.
Sorry to hear that man. You should give us makes and models and such so we can be on the look out as well.
SShhh,, it just another thing to make mife wifes anxiety go rampant.
Yeah a good thing you were there.
It was throwing out a bunch of smoke for sure... my wife said she saw a flame. I was yanking the power.
Thanks for the head's up on the start capacitor. I'll look.
Not a total loss, just a new relay and a some wiring.
I just checked my extinguishers a few days ago. Good reminder to shake 'em up a little.
Holy smokes bro! I am glad that it was not going full boar! There is a lot of good shit sitting close to that furnace. Hopefully the house doesnt smell like smoke for too long. Is the Frig done or can you keep it going with parts?
How old was the refer?
