    Default itunes for dummies

I need help so my wife will quit complaining! My son bought her an itunes gift card for moms day, she downloaded some music to the PC but she cant get it to work on the MP3/4 player. You can drag it over and then open the removable disk drive in my computer and see the music but you cant see it on the player when its undocked? I see mixed remedies when googling, is their an easy way to do it?

I just copy cd's and amazon downloads to my mp3 so I dont have much experience with these. Any help is appreciated!

Ok I see a program that will do this but its $35?

    Default Yes I love technology

Is she using an iPod? If so, you will need to "sync" the iPod with iTunes. I create a separate playlist in iTunes and put all the sings I want on my iPod into that playlist. Then when you are in the settings portion if your iPod IN iTunes, just sync your new playlist.

If she is using an iPod you can pm me and I can try and help you over the phone. Hope jou get it worked out!

    No its not an Ipod.

So I see if you burn them to CD and then rip them back to the hard drive in a windows format then she can down load to her generic mp3 player? I guess? I am trying that now. I hate jackin with this stuff.

I believe THAT is the problem. It's been a couple of years, but last I heard iTunes would only work on an iPod.

No need to do that (that used to be the method), now you just right click on the songs in iTunes and select "convert to MP3".

I also believe there's an iTunes store setting that allows you to download in MP3 instead of AAC (or whatever the iTunes format is).

When downloading or after downloading? Not sure if you mean before you download them? Thanks

I used to do a lot of VB and C+ programming and other PC stuff, now I deal with static IP's, port forwarding, and a bunch of other crap all day from hanging cables off poles in the rain to setting up wireless networks and commercial networks to fixing phone shorts to diagnosing home alarm systems. And I have found that I really dont like doing this stuff anymore on my own time

Convert to mp3 after they're downloaded and in your iTunes library.

Although I do believe you may have the option somewhere to download the songs from iTunes in MP3 ... not sure where because its been a while since I used iTunes (I'm running Linux machines now).

Ok I found it, you have to change the preferences, then go to advanced and convert them, then go to all music and it shows the mp3 version and mpeg4 version.

    Thanks for the info!

Tho you figured it out already I'll toss some info for anyone else that reads this

Song's from iTunes are in AAC format.(Advanced Audio Coding) which only works on ipods/iphones/ipads/ other apple products

As shown before you can convert to mp3 to use on non apple audio players.

For future reference, check out http://gomusicnow.com. It's a Russian site with credit card processing in Poland, so I used a pre-paid VISA card to load up credit. It's legal in Russia to sell for these prices. Basically 1/10th of what you pay from iTunes, and you get MP3 format from the go. I've had a balance there for more than a year, slowly working it down as I find new music to grab. If that's too sketchy, you can also buy from Amazon and get MP3 files.
