Standing by your beliefs is one thing, putting your vote towards an un-electable candidate is another. He's not even going for a 3rd-party vote, he's trying to be the Republican nominee. You know just as well as I do that he will not be the GOP nominee. As I said, I respect many Libertarian ideas, but I'm also realistic. He will not move far enough towards the center to be elected. All candidates must move towards the center during the election cycle, whether from the right or the left, to get elected. He's a fringe candidate.

So let us continue down this road and elect some turd burglar from either party. Gee where did my freedom go?

Unfortunately, in every election cycle we are presented with 2 "mainstream" candidates. 1 from the left, 1 from the right. Like it or not, this is a 2 party system, and that's just the way it is. We have to choose the candidate who most closely adheres to our individual values. 1 candidate represents 65% of what we truly believe, the other fulfills (in electioneering talk) 25% or less, of what we believe. Which one do you choose? Sitting it out "on principle" only helps the guy whose belief system least mirrors our own. I'll choose the guy who most closely resembles my beliefs, and will NEVER sit out an election on principle- just because I'm not in lock-step with the guy who is closer to my beliefs. The lesser of 2 evils is exactly that. Sitting it out on principle only helps the other side.

I can't speak for the L's. But if it came down to those two, the U.S. is more fare gone than I was hoping.

I have a hard time with Ron Paul, just because I like a lot of what he stands for, but I don't like the fact that he has some conservative social beliefs and has voted so several times. I'm a pretty staunch libertarian, so anything like that bugs me, but I know that the chance of a pure L being elected is pretty much nil right now. So I guess my decision will just have to wait and see who the end candidates are, but if it was Obama vs Paul, I would go Paul

Absolutely, Obama vs Paul, I'll vote for Paul. Not because I am a staunch Libertarian (I'm not), but because if those are the choices, he is the lesser of 2 evils.

I'm so sick of the lesser of two evil stance. No offense to you personally sneakerd, but it just seems like a cop out. And one of the reasons why a third party candidate will never be elected. Because everyone is too busy voting for the lesser of two evils instead of voting their hearts. And if you aren't voting in the caucuses then the right candidate will never get into the final race.

These are hot subjects- I understand the 2 guys who are standing opposite each other arguing heatedly- when they actually believe much the same thing. I never take a conversation like this personally, unless another makes it personal. I too am terribly frustrated by our gov't. I think it will be (will be because it is going to happen) insane to raise the debt ceilling. Can we as citizens do that- NO. Force me to purchase health care insurance from the gov't? NO. Further intrude into my personal life? NO. Tell me I cannot smoke in my own home? (not a smoker) NO. Tell me what kind of vehicle I can drive partially by raising the cost of gas? NO. I can go on forever.

Wow!! I am truly disappointed in my fellow members here!!

Keep saying he's unelectable yet we keep electing all these ass hat republicans that don't do anything different. Do you guys think that way because Bill O'reilly told you so? Do you guys think this because Shaun Hannity told you so? What about Fox News? Did they tell you, or how about the national media? Did they say that you will be wasting your vote???

Let me ask you guys a few questions-

Do you think Newt Gingrich, with his third wife that he had an affair with on his second wife is going to win against Obama with his Billion $$$ campaign fund??

Do you think Mitt Romney, with his Obama style health care and his liberal policies are going to win against Obama with his Billion $$$ campaign fund???

Do you think that any of the other "same old" Grand Old Party candidates are going to win against Obama with his Billion $$$ campaign fund?

The only person thats going win against Obama and his Billion $$$ campaign fund is a person that is not like the rest of the "Good Ole' Boys"

    That person is Ron Paul.

You guys keep thinking this way and we will see another 4 years of Obongo, and by any chance that a republican does get in the white house, it will be no different than Obama. We have had democrat and republican presidents for a long, long time and we have been traveling on the progressive steam engine for a long, long time.

    Its time to wake up!

I am actually quite awake thank you. Putting your response/argument in bold red and/or black changes nothing. I'll put my 3rd gen Colt 44-40 SAA in a (sorry) left handed Bachman (Old West Repro) fully-tooled holster as on the cover of "Packing Iron" up against any equal collateral. I'll put right here in print the SN and any other info you want- one for one. Neither Ron or Rand Paul will be the GOP candidate for President in 2012. You hard-line absolutist Libertarians put your money where your mouth is- right here, right now. I challenge any of you.
