    Default Les Baer non-chromed barrels...

    Hey Guys and Gals,

I'm trying to decide whether or not to pick up a Les Baer police special. $1100 new is tough to walk away from unless I'm misled. However I'm a newby and I've confused the hell out of myself reading all the pros and cons of a non-chromed barrel such as the one that comes on the Les Baer.

Opinions? I already have an AR I built off a Saber billet lower, DSA 16" upper, RRA LPK, LMT BCG, etc... It shoots damn fine. I venture to say it shoots better than my SW MP15!

Am I allowing myself to be sucked in by the name? I doubt I'm a good enough marksman to notice the difference between the LBC and what I already have but.... $1100 for an LBC new!?

    Comments please!

    Seriously? This thing?

$1100? I think I just threw up a bit in my mouth.

Honestly, looking at that setup, it looks hokey as shit, at any price.

    * 2004 called and wants its freefloat rail back.
    * ATI furniture is garbage, and dare I say, worse than TAPCO or CAA.
    * My friend bought that very rubber buttpad at a gunshow in 2001. You can still smell it in his safe, a decade after he threw it away.
    * The "very special (education) LBC flip-up front sight" is HUGE and orders less refined than a lot of other offerings.

I don't honestly see how it offers anything over your current setup. Trigger's nicer, but everything else is either very ordinary, or very behind the curve. The barrel not being chromed is not something I would ordinarily care *that* much about, but it seems Les Baer is trying to market this as a sort of close-quarters gun, in which case I'd damn well expect chroming, especially considering the price.

In the AR world, buy on quality of parts, not name.
    9mm - because they don't make a 9.1mm

for another $100.00 you purchase my SIG Swat Classic, with quad rail.
You are buying their name on a less than $1100.00 firearm. you could go to J&T dist Delton or any other kit building supplier pay 1/2 that for a full kit less the lower receiver, add a rail of your choice and flip up sights (if you insist on them) and still have a few georgie's left over for mags or ammo. YMMV

Yeah, I think I get the point.

Glad I asked before diving in.

    I appreciate the brutal honesty.
