It's on 285 between Salida and Buena Vista, look for the entrance to the Chaffee County dump and turn in there. Then you'll see signs directing you to the range. Particulars are that it has an awesome rifle range with steel targets (most of them marked with their distance) out to 1010 yards. It's free, just show up and shoot.
    Dude, where's my can?

We have a great range here and would like to keep it that way. I'm sure you guys on COAR-15 are not the problem but we had some idiot(s) destroy the action pistol back stop posts the other day.

We only ask that you take care of the ranges, pack it in, pack it out or throw it away in the trash cans. No glass, computers etc.

Other than that have a great time and hope to see you out there sometime.

There is a new resturant at the bottom of dump hill and a gas station at the top of dump hill so you don't have to drive into one of the towns and waste valuable shooting time.

As a side note DOW is trying to put in place state wide rules for all ranges urban as well as rural like ours. At our range there is no reason at all why we can't shoot .50, steel core, AP (not counting the steel targets as some ammo will tear them up), full auto etc. But the one size fits all guberment rules we are apt to get a lot of unwanted and unneed rules.

Have fun and enjoy the ranges. Bring a rifle, shotgun, pistol, .22 we have a range for it all.

There is a donation bucket at American Hunting and Fishing in Salida that is for the upkeep of the ranges. If you see a guy in a bright yellow SUV that is probably Bill and he is the one who does most of the work out there.

    Default Chaffee County range

What Chaffee2 said! We've got a great range out here, and we want to keep it that way. So, please use it safely, obey the rules, have fun, and clean up after yourselves. Hope to be able to meet/shoot with some of you in the future. WB
