Default What's the method for getting military contractor jobs?

Or what's the successful way to get a contractor job? I've been interested in getting my foot in the door for a job like that for a while but don't seem to know where to find them (I used to check USAjobs when I had lots of time and before I was continually unsuccessful) or the handshake when I found them. I have a background in aviation/development, marketing, mid level management and like to think I'm pretty smart and pick things up quickly. So any of you have pointers for me or those of us looking? I'd love to hear any pieces of wisdom you may have! Thanks!

What kind of contractor are we talking about? Don't just say military either. That is way to broad you need to narrow it down.

Default agreed - need to specify

USAjobs does not handle most contract jobs, they cover GS positions.

Contracts are usually posted or sent over numerous email distros. Major contracts will be on USAjobs to fill vacant positions.

If you are looking for overseas work, you need to go the actual website of the contractor themselves. Such as NavMar, MPRI, KBR, and the thousands of others. If you are looking for tactical contracting, you need to be vetted, have at least 5 years on a military tactical team or equivalent, and know someone already working in that group. If you are a pilot, you will need combat flight experience to even be competetive. Check military-civilian.com
    or TZJobWarrior.com

If you are truly interested in work, pm me and i'll send you my entire list of current contracting agencies. anything paying over $400 a day will be deployed and require most of the following, former military, secret clearance, or bachelors degree in technical field - or tradeskill.

Edit - if you are looking to become a government contract supplier, then you need to get a hold of the acquisitions website, i'll have to look it up- then once you are verified you can submit a bid for a particular job. I think thats more what you were looking for???

First off be a minority or woman owned, or better yet a minority woman owned company. then go through the process of being an approved bidder for government contracts. Then sharpen your pencil so you are the low bidder to get awarded those contracts.

I don't believe that your suggestion was very helpful- considering that it was highly bigotted and extremely misinformed!!

You say you have a background in aviation/development and mid-level management. Unfortunately, there are a LOT of people who can say that in C Springs but nothing ventured, nothing gained so ...

Check out the job fairs and technology fairs on Peterson. Visit local conferences and symposiums. Make friends with current active duty military or military contractors at local venues like gun clubs.

Thanks for the replies guys! I'm looking on an individual level, not as a business. I have zero combat experience and am not sure I know exactly what I'm looking for. I have a strong interest in working with a branch of service in some manner or another. I had the chance to go towards being a warrant officer flying helicopters and ended up going the family business route for the last 9 years (developing a 4 person, 400 mph, single engine personal jet). I'm now working in a typical corporate job that I feel fortunate to have , but that doesn't really satisfy me. I think being involved in something bigger/more important/exciting would be fantastic and that's what I'm hoping to accomplish. I don't have IT or HR experience, I love being hands on.
I have to run to that corporate job now, I'll follow up more this evening, thanks you guys!

a family member who is working for XXXXXXXXX told me he sees more folks walk off the plane with basic skills hired to do "basic" skilled jobs, such as laundry, trash, maintenance etc., work their way up the food chain within their first contract tour. The biggest thing most new hires are unable to deal with is the time away from family, be it in south america, the middle east of other distant places. You do not need military experience to get hired halliburton and other corps do hire non-mil folks to do grunt work. outside of having some basic skill set with a resume to back it up, you have a physica to pass, that part of the hiring process quashed my hopes.
