    Default Finally...

OK, so I bought the G20 that hurley842002 had for sale a couple weeks ago, and I was finally able to load some rounds Saturday night and took it out yesterday. One word to describe what I think of the 10mm - AWESOME! I was expecting some pretty heavy recoil since I was using loads that were just slightly under max, but it had less perceived recoil than the .45ACP I was shooting - I'm sure the stainless guide rod with 22# spring had a lot to do with that. It was also very accurate, hitting what my sons and I were aiming at from about 20-25 yards.

I'm not sure what took so long for me to take the plunge into the 10mm world, but I wish I would have done it sooner. I'm definitely hooked!!!

Yeah, I know - , so I'll try to get some up soon, but in the time being you can see them in hurley842002's post (new to me woods rig).

Great to hear Alan, glad you got to shoot it finally. You really must shoot full power 10mm to appreciate the caliber. Any luck getting into an after market barrel yet?

Yeah, I figured there would be no sense in shooting light loads, or I could have just stuck with .40 S&W. I had heard stories about how great the round is, but until you actually get out and shoot it you really can't understand.

I have not found a barrel for it yet, but I am planning on ordering one if I don't find one by the end of the week.

Yeah, definitely not the most budget friendly caliber, if all you are going to do is shoot light loads through it. Did you notice any issues with the brass, after firing your warm loads through it?

There may be a very slight smiley on a few of them, but I used new brass that I picked up from Bison Arms in Longmont. Some of it was Midway, but I don't remember what the other brand was.

Good deal! After seeing this post on Glocktalk, I realized that the "smiley" pic I posted, wasn't so bad after all, and it was the worst of the bunch.

so have you picked a favorite load yet? I just picked up some Longshot and some 800x to try for some 135 Nosler top speeds.

Actually the only load i've thrown together for 10mm, is a 180gr LFN, over 9.5gr of Longshot. Fairly warm load, but not quite max. I'm holding off, using too many of my 10mm components (especially the Gold dots) until I get a Chronograph. I'm not really a big fan of the real light bullets, i've got some 155gr Gold dots, I may experiment with, but 165 is about the lowest I prefer to go in 10mm.

I haven't had the chance to chrono anything, but the 1st loads I did were 180gr Gold Dot & 180gr FMJ with 10.8gr of Blue Dot (max is 11gr). They were very accurate out of my G20, and were one of the higher velocity recipes I found for a 180gr bullet (specs at 1295fps w/ 11gr of powder).
