    Default Cool Shotgun Tricks

Cut shells. How to turn a #8 shot into a .70 caliber Glaser Safety shot. I don't think this would work well in a pump.

Right when I talked myself out of that break barrel in the trading post. Thanks a lot.

I think it'd work even less well in an autoloader...

but as a 12ga reloader, I wonder if this could be done as a last shot on other wise bad hulls... hmm..
rather than cutting it by hand, if a controlled depth cut was made at a strategic location- then it could hold together better while loading, but still separate on ignition.

pressure would be higher, too- since it's forcing a larger diameter "package" down the barrel.

I posted this before I thought it through. Check your gun. A full choke is a kaboom waiting to happen here. If you have no choke or a light one you might be okay. As I understand it, shotguns do have a chamber which the shell fits into. You'll be getting a pressure spike as part of the shell compresses into the barrel.

This supposedly goes way back and was the poor man's slug round long ago. I don't know if I would do it, only having pump guns, but it is worth knowing.

and you're correct about the chamber- just beyond it is what's known as a "forcing cone", that moves from chamber diameter to bore diameter... the plastic hull will deform, but will resist & build more pressure... again at the choke, if present...

in the video, he said his shotgun had a modified choke...
and on a pump gun, that's why I was curious about a controlled-depth cut, rather than the slit that he made hanging by 1/8" or so... may hold together in a pump... what's the worst that could happen?

    neat trick, anyway...

let us know all the details about your gun as well and the brand ammo and size shot etc. I am curious about this as well.
All I have in this world is my balls and my word and I don't break em for no one.
