    Finding usable mags for a 30-06 is usually limited to BAR mags. The military could not get them to work reliably when they tried in the 1940s and 1950s to modify the M1 to a mag fed rifle. This whole process later developed into the M14.
    Not to mention the fact that post WWII studies found that full size rifle chamberings were overkill. Studies found that the majority of engagements occurred at less than 200 yards. No need for the 06 at that type of range not to mention the cost savings to the Pentagon by going to the 308.

    I have had broken bones + infections that hurt less than M1 thumb. In all honesty the most painful thing I have experinced. But I would not think twice about getting one. I want a HR bad.

    My Garand is probably the ONLY gun in my pile that I'll never sell. Best rifle ever made (to me).
