Conceal Carry on AmTrak Train to Glenwood

Taking the family on the Amtrak train from Denver to Glenwood in July. Haven't really read too much on it yet but can you carry concealed on a train or are they like airports with security?

The short answer is "No."

Amtrak has a published list of items they do not allow as carry-on, and firearms are on that list.

You don't even want to have one in your carry on luggage. They do have Railroad Police boarding trains sometimes with dogs, to check on possible drug movements.

Yeah, railroads operate under different rules than everyone else, and offenses are Federal crimes. Guns on RR property are strictly verboten. They can even crucify hunters walking along the right of way carrying hunting guns, if they want to. Don't risk it, ain't worth it.

Yeah, after having worked for a RR for about 34 years, I well know that they really "frown" on trespassers on their property. Now especially with the serious terrorism threat, they are much more alert for people walking around on their right of way both with or without firearms.

1-Any railroad
2-Any water purveyor

Sounds good guys. Not going to risk it, my father-in-law has plenty of guns to choose from (50+) so I'll just grab one of his when I get into town for the weekend.

I work in telecom, and a lot of my sites are on rights of way near the tracks. I've had to go through RR training many times, and frequently get the stink-eye from RR folks in the field. Never been harrassed though, once I get to my site building they realize I belong there. They also have a big problem with people cutting down cables along the ROW's to steal the copper, so they're extra vigilant now.

And some years ago, the railroads had thieves stealing their glass/porcelain insulators along with the copper communications lines. Microwave, fiber optic and other modern methods of communications have kinda cut down. I recall they (the RR gumshoes) busted someone and proved their case when the cut marks on the wire the thieves left at the scene matched cut marks on the coil of copper wire they had just cut and still had in their possession. Kinda like forensic matching of a bullet.
I really doubt if RR employees can even have a firearm in their private vehicle while it is parked on RR property. Firearms and RR's just don't mix. Almost all of the autoveyors (double and triple decked rail cars for the commercial transportation of highway vehicles) are all enclosed with perforated sheets of metal to prevent stones and bullets making their way to the new vehicles being hauled. Damn vandals!!
