My first thought was siaga's, M1's, Left handed ar's, bolt rifles, etc. Also some exotic ammo's (12ga like on deltaforce.com), maybe some tannerite.

Actually he should focus on stocking the stuff that people buy so he can stay in business.

When it comes to the "hard to find" stuff, most of that stuff is hard to find because its also hard to sell.

He just needs to make sure he hooks up with someone like Davidson's so he can special order anything quickly and easily.

    +1

to be competitive he needs to concentrate on a higher turnover with a small profit margin as opposed to trying to make a weeks salary in one sale.

62 gr 223 ammo in 1,000 (or close to 1,000) round boxes at a fair price.

MP5's damnit! Every time I want to buy new ones, I have to find someone who wants to sell theirs and they are always in Florida! Always!

I don't care so much what he stocks, as long as he stocks LOTS of things.

I never know what I might "need" or want that day

I've watched 2 gun stores open her locally over the past year.
the first one went bust, the 2nd one i think is struggling.
They have maybe 30 to 50 total firearms in stock.
ok, sure they can get anything, but the odds of me liking that 1/50 thing is minimal

    400 or 500 firearms, I've got a good shot.

gotta have inventory. Used, new, shotguns, pistols, revolvers, rifles, EBR's, etc. The great thing about guns is there is something for everyone. But if I can't see it, then there is no real point in buying it from you.

lots of inventory. And not 20 of the same thing, but 20 different things.

The problem here is that you end up tying up all your money in inventory and then you can't eat and when you do make a sale the margins are slim.

Markup on guns is tiny ... markup on ammo and accessories is huge.

So have a HUGE selection of ammo and accessories, a decent selection of guns and the ability to get your hands on ANYTHING in short order and your friend should do well.

I know what I pay for new toys through a friend who has a shop..and I know what they're marked as.. I usually pay 1/3 - 1/2 less than what I've seen marked at local shops..
