AR Pistols ?

I don't see many posts about AR pistols.
Does anyone have one or do you think they're a gimmick gun ?

I've vaguely kinda wanted an ak one. But other than for laughs I kinda hate them. Mainly because IMO it's really just gaming the system to get around just doing an SBR. And to do that costs you having a stock and other pseudo important parts. Whatever the atf says, to me personally if it can't be holstered, and doesn't quack like a duck so to speak, it's not a handgun. (Key alternate word to pistol... handgun, not 2 hands gun which is what it really is to be shooting half well with.)

I can see the appeal for states that don't allow sbr, and I have a hard time saying they should be banned and no you shouldn't have them. Just not my cup of tea and I think people should not get them not because of the law, just because they are limited practicality to silly range toy for the most part.

My 2cents, doesn't mean I want to force it to be anyone else's 2.

Well, they seem a bit more user friendly than the Draco pistols. They are a neat range toy and conversation piece. Better for home defense than a Tec-9. That's about all the good things I can think of to say about them.

As for negatives, I've heard they tend to have reliability issues and it is only a matter of time before ATF bans them. They seem impractical to me for just about any purpose than looking cool, but I support the right of law abiding Americans to waste their money on anything they want. At an average starting price of $800 I don't see many falling into the hands of gang members.

I am going to build two after I finish my .308 build.

Mainly for fun, but I have seen posts that some people keep them in their car. Imagine the look on the road rager's face as they are banging on your window yelling obscenities.

Had a few in .223 (kel-tec) and 7.62 (Draco).
I have bought a Bushy Carbon 15 for the wife.
Never had any issue.
Absolutely worthless for any practical purpose.
The idea of using them for home defense makes me cringe (noise, over penetration, muzzle flash)).
BUT THEY ARE COOL!
The wife loves it, she calls it the Flashy gun!
The only thing louder than my wife...

I've a CMMG that has been 100% reliable. Great truck gun-rifle punch in a large pistol size package. Accuracy is decent for what it is. Aside from that pretty much a range toy

In the event of a Mad Max scenario it would be a hell of an open carry gun.

When built right they are very reliable.
Accuracy is usually 2-3 MOA on a decent built upper.

If you have to do any type of chore an AR-15 pistol on a single point sling rotated to your back makes chores easy with the length of a carbine not getting in your way.
I do not understand (possibly reliability on cheaper ones) why people get them in 10-11" and bigger barrels... may as well just get a carbine. If you get one I believe the 8" and shorter ones are the most easily carried and used.

Heck of a CCW with a 7.5" barrel and a Beta 100 round drum.

To me the muzzle blast doesn't seem as bad as 12ga slugs from a short entry type shotgun. (under 18"). Great fireballs at night though.
