    Default 870 Ideas

So my father inlaw gave me an 870, 5 digit serial mumber 28" barrel. The problem is he took an ingraver and dug his SS# in to the reciver.

Here is what im thinking of doing, cut it down to 18" and have it chromed with a dark mahogny stock. That way the reciver could be smothed out.

I have talked with a class 3 about cuting it down to 14" and have it parkerized. With the tax stamp he thinks it would never go down in price.

    I guess I don't understand.
what are you trying to do? What do you want to use it for?

sounds like it's a decent hunting/clays 870 that has a ugly SS# in it. Can't you just get that filled in and polished? (then maybe a little engraving), would be a real nice family heirloom.

there are tons of home defense 18.5" 870's out there pretty cheap, why change something that has "family" in it?

I allready my grand dad's 870 30" polly choke , I removed the wood and installed after market stock and fore. I did this to save the wood. I have my cousins side by side 20g pristine condition and will prob not shoot it again.

So hierloom shot guns I have, looking to build something cool.

    PS thanks for the input

    ok
    I buy that.
but how does changing the barrel length fix the issue with the SS# in the receiver?

Depending on how deep the engraving is it can either be polished/DA'd out or blasted and filled, then Duracoated or similar.
You will find the cost of plating stupid 'spensive.

I just cleaned my Remmington 870 Wingmaster and was debating doing something like that after watching a guy on youtube convert his Wally World 870 for $300.00, tearing it down, adding an 18 barrel + tatical extras, he ended up totaling around $600.00 bones when all was said and done, but did look like a pretty cool project.
