Default El Paso County CCW--10 Weeks to the Day

Just to set expectations for others, today my permit arrived, exactly 10 weeks after my filing at the El Paso County Sheriff's office. I believe my letter from the Sheriff's Office is actually signed by Sheriff Maketa--it looks genuine and original.

The letter is quite nice, and I'll add it to my Love Me wall...it begins with a hearty congratulations, and a note that 'this privelege' (!) is being extended to me in order that I be able to protect myself and my family. It continues on to emphasize that 'this privelege' (!) carries a significant responsibility, which of course is true enough.

In spite of my resentment of the Office's squandering of the opportunity to highlight that CCW is NOT a privilege, I do appreciate the supportive tone of the letter, and also the reminder that there is a responsibility to not only not be a retard, but to keep abreast of law as it relates to carry. It's a nice letter. I take issue with the 'privilege' language, particularly because of a) it's not, and b) the word itself is generally used to mean exclusivity and exhalted status. The very exact aspects of cultural bureaucacy the Founders intended to thwart through arming the Public and by legally enabling armed resistance by The People. God Bless the Founders. Here's a group of the 'Elite' who enacted Law that enables the spirit of Delete the Elite. I love America.

I can hardly emphasize how much my little permit scares the crap out of me.

I have nothing but good things to say about EPSO and the permit issuing/renewing process. Even before the state went "shall-issue" they were good to go.

10 weeks to the day for me will be the 5th of July. They said 70 days at application, so are they that spot on to know exactly how long it will be? Nah, I'm guessing that they are holding the completed permit for some time.
