    Yeah, after he died first (the BHP went into service 9 years after his death ... I also suspect that Dieudonné Saive is real tired of JMB getting all the credit for his hard work).

    Ok, so here's my thoughts on OSs (as a long time geek and computer user).

    I've been using MacOS since System 7 and Windows since Windows 1.0. Prior to the release of Mac OSX and after the release of Window 95 I came to the conclusion that Windows was the superior system, but OSX (being based on a modified BSD Unix kernel) blew Windows out of the water (that said, Windows 7 is the best OS Microsoft has made since MSDOS 5.5) The main problem I have with Windows is the Registry (but I'm not going to bore y'all with a lecture on insecure operating systems).

    That said, I actually trust Apple less corporately than I do Microsoft (not that either is trust worthy) and with the advent of iOS (the OS in iPhones and iPads) my distrust of Apple is at an all time high. I fully expect MacOS 11 to be a variation on iOS and not OSX (so its going to be a VERY closed system ... with software ONLY available through THEIR app store). So that's why I hesitate to recommend Macs to Windows users (that and Win7 doesn't suck as much as earlier windows).

    Anyway, I've also been a Linux user off and on for the last decade as well (told you I was a geek) and I would say that FINALLY there are Linux distros that are usable by non computer geek folk, but under some very specific conditions;
    (if you answer "yes" to any of the following questions, stick with Windows or OSX).
    • Do you use a piece of software that you just can't live without (and there is no open source alternative)?
    • Do you do a lot of gaming (look here before you answer for sure)?
    • Do you wish to use or continue using the iTunes store?
    • Are you a complete idiot?
    If you answered no to all those than maybe you should consider giving Linux a try (I recommend Linux Mint, Ubuntu or PCLinuxOS .... in that order ... and after typing all that I'm too lazy to make those into hyperlinks so go Google them yourself ).

    This is good advice.

    http://ubuntu.com has step by step to burn a "live CD". Once you burn it, you can put it in the tray of a computer and start it up, and Ubuntu will launch from the CD without touching the hard drive. It lets you try before you buy, although it's very slow. Can also run it from a 2gb memory stick. Also very good way to make a 3 or 5 year old computer useful again.

    Oddly, I have an emachines desktop running vista that's been going for 4 years now with almost no issues.

    Apparently the secret is getting both terrible hardware AND terrible software. That way they cancel each other out and it works perfectly.

    Another +1 for Ubuntu. Now if only I could get either a working laptop or upgrade the vid card in my cappy Dell, I would be able to use my computer more. Oh, and a consistent internet connection, guess I'll have to pay for it some day.
