Next door neighbor passed away a few years ago was a D-Day vet. Great guy that I loved having a cup of coffee with and listening to his stories.

You should make a thread if possible and tell some of the stories if appropriate.

My uncle was there on normandy that day. he was wounded and awarded the purple heart. I never really understood the impact it had on his life until I joined the Marine Corps. he never spoke about it to anyone in the family until in his last days before he passed .....i sat next to his bed and he shared alot with me. I was honored.

Thinking of these great people passing always makes me sad, not only for the loss of a great American life, but also the loss of some amazing stories.

It was also my grandad's b-day yesterday, who served in WWII, so a lot of memories for me yesterday!
