    Default Upset With Gunsmith!

I took my Remington 700 XCR 300 Ultra Mag to the gunsmith. He pillar bedded it, floated the barrel, trigger job, cut off a inch and a half off the barrel and put on a Holland muzzle brake. I should add that this gunsmith is about a 45 minute drive from my house. My bill was around $460 bucks.

When I first got the gun home I noticed the safety was not right. It was very hard to put on or take off of safety. I went right back to the gunsmith. He almost acted like I was insulting him until he tried to work the safety and saw how bad it was. He apologized and repaired it while I waited.

I took the rifle to the range and zeroed it in and shot about 30 rounds through it. I was not getting the accuracy that I got from the Remington 700 300UM that I had recently sold. I took it home and started looking at it and it was very clear that the stock was touching the barrel in more than one place.

I had to take it back to the gunsmith. Again he repaired it while I waited. I know we are all human but I expect more from a gunsmith than that. I won't be going there again. Very mild rant over!

I'm kind of worried about the rest of the work that was done on my gun.

You know we have a guy on here by the name of BPTactical right? J/K I have heard lots of stories like that actually, kinda like back yard mechanics. If you have anything done with your precious items, take them to someone you know does a great job. You might pay a little more for their service, but there is a reason for it which is you won't have to take it back.
If you make something idiot proof, someone will make a better idiot... Forget youth, what we need is a fountain of smart. There are no stupid questions, just a lot of inquisitive idiots.

I met BP after this whole process was already started. I plan on using him in the future. I just expected more from the place I went. They were highly recommended. My buddy said he knew the boss of the place for more than 25 years.

I recommend identifying his company name (or HIS name if he does business with that) - at least in the feedback section - to save the rest of us from the same headaches.

What I was thinking. If he is a member he can respond to the masses. If he is not a member ...he should be.

It was Bass Pro Shop, here in Denver. They came highly recommened to me. I left a message for the store manager. I'm going to let him know of my concerns in nice way. I just hope the pillar bedding was done right. I would not even know by looking. I'm not sure I would ever be able to go back there with any confidence at all.

I would take it into BP and have him inspect the work. Then you would know for sure what, if anything else, needs to be fixed or fubared.
Mom's comin' 'round to put it back the way it ought to be.

I'm going to wait to hear from the manager of the store but I will have it checked out for sure. The good thing is BP's shop is only a few miles from where I work!!
