Default Colorado Ranks High on Freedom Index

The Mercatus Center at George Mason University has released an interesting ranking of "freedoms" by state.

See Colorado's ranking HERE. I'm not sure they got the guns law accurately, though. It appears they believe background checks apply on private sales. Maybe I'm reading it wrong.

I think gun laws here are pretty good compared to most states.

A big reason why I moved here.

Doesn't Indiana have some bad gun laws? Surprised to see it at #4.

I think I was confused in that Indiana does not issue CCWs, but issues "license to carry" with allows open and concealed carry.

You can open carry here at 18, minus Denver county.

18+ for open carry handguns, according to a pro 2A LEO I know. Not sure what the rules are on open carry of long arms outside of Nat. Forests, but I don't know why I'd be walking around with one anyway. I keep my rifle in my truck (long arms = loaded but not chambered in vehicles) but don't walk around with it.

On the subject of OC.... I've walked into Starbucks on the way up to the mountains with my .44mag sitting on my side and gotten funnier looks about ordering straight black coffee than open carrying, and I wouldn't call this a generally 2A-friendly area.

Colorado state law is 21 to purchase, possess and own a pistol. I find it funny that NY is #50... they are the supreme example of a police state. Tried to make me pay $650 for a NYS pistol permit, and without it you can't even hold a pistol at a gun store!

Indiana gun laws were pretty good. I guess they're ending the lifetime CCW program though.
