    Default ham radio shops?

    Sooner or later I'll be moving out to the Springs
    Is there a ham radio shop that any of you amature radio guys would reccomend??new or used

    And also is there a list of local repeater leagues in the local area?
    When i move out there id like to hook up with somebody there that can show me the ropes
    I dont have my license yet-yea i know a commo guy without a ham license,I just never got around to it
    Any help and or links would be appreciated

    My son, the Oxford kid but a none techie, studied hard and passed his test with a 100%. He now wants to continue to upgrade and even learn code - not required now days but used by many... including myself!

    I have always been interested in doing this, is there a study book I can download? also how much does equipment usually run to start off with?

    I am not aware of a downloadable study book. $19 at HRO in Denver. The Gordon West book is good. the ARRL book is a huge in depth study guide for total beginners... if you do not know the difference between a transistor and a Ford pickup!
    [Not that there is much difference...]

    You can download phone apps for a few bucks and take practice tests on your phone or go on line @ QRZ.com and take free practice test.

    Equipment price varies from $120 for a basic handheld for local communications on VHF and UHF to 10 grand for top end HF rig with full bells and whistles.

    That'll help out a lot for when i get out there

    Im sure with a bit of brushing up i can ace the test,its been a while since i was a commo cheif
    I remember when i went to commo school we were taught code and we practiced every day-even at chow and at lights out
    Amazing how much one forgets if you dont use it
