Default TOS vs. a Local Forum

Being new to the forum thing I have a few thoughts that have been buzzing around in my brain. My first forum I participated in was a big world wide M4 forum. Being new to this world of forums and tactical guns and not as "smart" as the participates over there I was ridiculed, insulted, and hassled constantly. I was thinking, "are there that many assholes in the shooting community?" Would these people act this was to my face? I mean, most folks I run into at the range and training classes are really cool and polite. Are these the same people that once sitting behind a computer become assholes?

One thing I have noticed on this site is that everybody is really cool and polite to each other. Why? Is it because we live so close to each other and we will probably meet face to face one day at the range? This is what I think. Or perhaps it's because Coloradans are just good people?

What are your thoughts and experiences?

A forum's "attitude" is set by the site owner(s), Admins and Moderators.

If the Admins want the place to be nice they will surround themselves with those types of Moderators and that attitude will be expected.

If the Admin is a jerk & surrounds himself with like minded jerks, expect the forum to have a nasty attitude.

Also, if there are not any rules then it will be a free-for-all.

So to answer your question, this place has professional, level headed/fair staff, and the prevailing attitude reflects this.

    Good job guys -

I dunno.. I think we can be pretty harsh on some n00bs around here..usually when they start trying to sell shit first and get an attitude about it.

All in all.. it's the internet.. Keyboard black belts will always be around. Just like alcohol causing people to become 10' tall and bullet proof.. so does the internet.. only then they're 10' tall and a SSDG.

Nope, folks tend to grow big brass ones when there's a firewall and an audience involved.

agreed, there is a lot of internet toughguy and thugging out there, and most of those people are really 13 year old skinny kids...

Everyone that I've met from this forum in RL, or have known before hand, are all good dudes. There are some people of course I don't care for, but I just ignore that and just focus on having good interactions with folks.

I thought it was because we already decided I won this forum! I am the most tacti-cool, therefore arguments don't need to happen here. Its quite simple really.

Also, I still need my n00b donation from you! I will take 3 pieces of multicam anything.

But really, I think there is no internet facade here, I have meet most of the regular posters at this point and plan on seeing them again in the future. If I puff my chest out and make myself sound like a super ninja, I may have to Put-Up someday, at a real range, in front of these people and prove it, or fake an injury, which could happen.

Beyond that, the admin guys do a great job of keeping us, mostly level headed. I'm sure if you asked any of our wives, thats a hell of a job, and something to be really proud of.

It's not just gun sites. When it is acceptable to pile on noobs and jerks are tolerated it gets bad. Gun sites tend to be bad. Here it is a badge of honor to have been banned by ARF15. I'm here because it is local and the level of discourse is civilized. I've met some members FTF and they are all good guys.

I'm at the point in my life where my boss can be a jerk since he pays me but I don't put up with it anywhere else.
